Those actions were really cheap in the 70's. Surplus rifles sold for $9.95.

The 416 MRE is a great caliber. Same ballistics as the 416 Rigby in a compact shell. I once owned the rifle. Easy to make brass from 460 WBY. I might still have dies if needed. Or, run in a standard 416 Wby Mag reamer if the mag box is large enough.

The tag was most likely from the former owner - because it his his chronograph loading data.

There is a "39" stamped on the bottom of the barrels .... but there was a laminated tag attached to the trigger-guard from the former owner that said .. "caliber 500 3" express" and even had loading data with IMR3031 and IMR4198 with velocities - HERE ARE PICTURES OF THE TAG...
