    What calibre would you choose for Buffalo and Bovine hunts.

    Minimum, 375 H&H OR 375 Ruger. The various DG 416 calibers would be preferable. Use enough gun!

    If I remember correctly, the Carcano has a gain twist bore. Supposedly lowering the pressure. You may want to check that.

    Claw mounts without the rings or a scope

    I was fortunate to have found a 6.5x55 with everything there. Mounts, rings and scope (an early Zeiss). It would not have been economically feasible to have rings made to fit the mounts. Leupold used sell rings that could be custom fit to the infinite specs of claw mounts

    After thinking about it and checking measurements, your 30 Cougar cartridge is extremely similar to the 7x61 S&H. The length of the Norma brass that I use is 2.4 inches and it is a belted cartridge.

    Going on my first black bear hunt in October

    I have harvested 8 or 9 Canadian bear over the past 14 years. The prettiest one was a 260lb boat dark chocolate color phase with blond hilites. Remarkable hunting. Photo of the mount was prior to putting up on the wal.
