I have finally had to use Leica Service. Somehow the elevation turret was damaged. I am not sure how that happened, my but wife said that rilfe "may have fallen over in my closet when she was hanging up some of my clothes."

I sent the scope to Leica USA with a copy of my warranty and the forms from the Leica Website. I received a email from Leica USA that they received the item and a few days later another email that they were sending the item to Germany for repair. About two months later, I received an email from Leica USA that the repair was complete and everything was under warranty and that they were shipping it back to me two day UPS air with the tracking number.

I just don't understand all the complaints about Leica service. I received nothing but excellent service from Leica USA.

The best service is when you dont need a service at all.
Now, few days ago I bought Leica binocular, not exactly cheap, and I hope not to experience service with it.

Sent in my previous pair of Leica Geovids to them from South Africa and found their service exemplary. Will be sending in my Spotting Scope at the end of the season that blew over in the wind and broke the mount that connect to the tripod.

I’ve had good/bad. Good, because the service and turn around times have been great. Bad because I have had to use their services on 3 occasions for internal fogging, twice on the same binocular.

How old are the binoculars? Sent my binoculars in for a service, and they came back brand new.

Hmmm…8-10 years maybe? They are the compact Trinovids. Don’t even have to be in the rain for them to fog. I really like them for carrying in a shirt pocket. When they are clear that is.

I have had great service with Leica. Several years ago, I broke my spotter. Sent it back and they replaced it with the newest model. No questions asked.
I also saw a lot of talk several years ago about bad Leica service. I guess YMMV.

Just moving to DM. Yes, please ask your friend if he knows somebody who might be willing to support a persistent hunt in the snow.
