Have you guys had any experience with "kimber of Oregon" African rifles? I'm currently looking at one in 416 Rigby and am trying to figure out the good bad and ugly.
I've always seen these rifles and they seem to bring a premium but I can't find much on them, review wise.

I appreciate any experience and insight you may share.

For the price, I'd spend a couple thousand more and buy a Rigby Big Game in 416 Rigby. The "Kimber of Oregon" rifles use the 89BGR action while Kimber's Caprivi and Talkeetna use the 8400M action. The 89BGR had some issues and the new 84 and 8400 actions seem to be hit or miss on whether they feed properly or hold groups. If you want something on the less expensive end, Sako Kodiak and Brown Bear are solid. You can't go wrong with A Ruger M77 or Winchester Model 70. Although, the newer Ruger is chambered for the 416 Ruger, while the winchester's chambered for 416 Rem. The older model RSM I believe is chambered for the Rigby and a favorite among African hunters. I don't believe you'll find a M70 in the Rigby unless it's been re-barreled.

My experience with the Kimber of Oregon is limited, I have only held one and cycled it without rounds. I will say it felt alright but nothing special, especially for the price.

.....I think the Rigby looks much better!

7MAG, I appreciate the input, its what I was looking for. I'd love to have a Rigby big game or any Rigby rifle for that matter but on this deal its more than a little jump. Ive got an opportunity a BNIB Kimber 416 for $4000 and thought I better do some research lol. I definitely do want anything with even a hint of having had issues in the past.
I like the Sako's but i can't find one, I'd really like get the grizzly in 9.3x62.

Since you mentioned a 9.3x62, I'm assuming you are not set on a 416 Rigby. If that's correct, you have got a lot better options as far as DG rifles go.
Listed below are some other great options in medium to big bore in the same price range:

are you referencing this rifle, if you are that's a hell of a deal http://www.hallowellco.com/kimber___african 416 Rigby.htm

Its a dang good rifle for 4k. Or spend a little more and buy a Dakota of the used market. The Kimber Caprivis are excellent for the money as well, and Kimber does stand behind their products.. I've had 2 over the years, had one Caprivi 416 remington that had an issue with light primer strikes, sent it back, came back a month later never had any problems since. If I didn't give darn about what I used as a rifle I would buy Winchester Model 70's, they will do it all and they are comparatively cheap, maybe even leave them in africa as part of a tip lol.

You can also build a Blaser R8 off euro-optic for around $5000 with a 9.3x62 or 375H&H barrel

I appreciate the info, Gentlemen. @7MAG that Dakota might be the ticket, I really like those rifles and that looks like as good of a price as I've ever seen on one, when you factor in the glass.
As far as the 9.3, I have one of the Ruger M77's and even lucked out with beautifully flamed walnut, I've just always had a thing for those Sake Grizzly's.

I believe cabelas will ship the rifle to any other cabelas/bass pro near you free of charge. I’m not sure if they still do this. If you end up purchasing the rifle make sure to update us! Personally, the habicht(illuminated) is my favorite low power scope and they seem to be getting harder to find….you get a Dakota in 416 with that scope for that price. That’s a hell of a deal.

Unfortunately, Cabelas doesn't do that anymore, they'll ship it at a relatively low price but they do charge you and won't add it towards the rifle if you buy it. I'm going to call them and see if they still have it. Thanks again.

It's $25 (or was) to have the rifle shipped to your local Cabelas. You can inspect the rifle but don't HAVE to buy it.

I knew Cabelas went down hill when you weren't allowed to return rifles, I think they did that 5 or so years ago.

Well, it turns out we were both wrong, its changed again. They ship it for free but you have to pay for all up front. When it comes in and you decide not to take ownership of it, they refund 100% of it.
So if you don't mind tying up that kind of credit for a couple of weeks, it'll actually come out cheaper.
Oh yeah, it has to be a credit card now, no debit cards, no cards with a debit function whatsoever.

@7MAG I've got it on the way, got them to drop it another $200 also. I appreciate you pointing it out. I've been looking on the gun library for a while now but their search function is pretty jacked up. I was searching 416 rigby and it wasn't coming up but "416" by itself worked. Thanks again!

Interesting? As of a couple of years ago, I was told they wouldn't "deal" on a firearm that was shipped from another store to my local store. I guess you must have dealt with the store where the rifle was being shipped from?

I did, because its changed, you have to pay the store that has it, over the phone. they won't ship it for you to look at anymore.

Well, as embarrassing as it is to say this, I cancelled the order on the 416. I got so fired up about the gun and scope combo, I failed to realize it didn't have any rear express sights. I know could have that rectified but the additional cost and wait time kinda squashed it for me. I caught it before it shipped. I still can't believe i didn't notice it and i'm not sure why it would have a front sight.

So, if anyone wants it that doesn't mind that sort of thing, They'll take 6k for it.

No big deal, you’ll find something better anyways. I didn’t even notice it didn’t have the rear sight.

The Ruger seems like a good deal, too bad they are so ugly. There also seems to be a lot of Dakotas around. I like the heym though

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
