I am thinking about a NULA rifle in 300wsm. What are you able to get in performance for a 200gr in you rifle?

I think the issue is the thin barrel. Kimber guarantees a 1 moa pattern but 3 quick shots gave me about 3" at 100 yards with 150 and 165 grain bullets. I talked to a Kimber rep and he told me try heavier bullets. The rifle shoots decent groups if you let the barrel cool between shots. However it is a mountain hunting rifle, not a target rifle. So the potential to need quick follow up shot at ling range requires better performance. With a little Swarovski z3 3-9x36 scope it is a dream to pack uphill. I used it on my mountain goat. It also loves nickle plated ammo.... So the favorite ammo is Federal Premium 200 grain which i have loaded with that new TLD bullet. I also shot some 185 grain Bergers and predictably they shot better than lighter bullets but not as well as the 200 grainers.

I think you are correct, my Montana likes the heavier bullets. Difference between night and day.

Any idea why the nickel plated brass would shoot better? Not doubting your experience just don’t understand why that would have an impact.

Phil it shoots better because it feeds into the action better. Tough to shoot accurately if the chamber is empty

And my CZ in 505 Gibbs refuses to properly feed the nickle plated shells unless i scratch them up first.... Each rifle can have it's own quirks.

Not really. The 505 cartridge is so fat. They have a difficult time getting enough metal out of sides of the magazine to allow the belly of the cartridge to hold beneath the rails. The nickle cases are too slippery and will pop out. If they are roughed up, they don't slide out as easily. And brass sticks better than nickle plated.

Now that makes sense. I thought you were saying they slid better after roughing them up.
