"Leopard Charge"

10:40 is the initial shot in the tree.
Follow Up at 11:00
11:41 all done.

Damned fine followup shot.

My first thought: Why, did the PH and Tracker(?) choose to get so close?

Great cat and outstanding finishing shot. Thanks for posting. Is this your way of telling us that you are going after leopard this season?!

Wow. That brought me right back to my own leopard hunt. Awesome to see what a tight team the PH and scout are. Really glad that it ended well.

This was in July, would’ve been fairly thick bush still for the most part.
I doubt there would have been much opportunity to get a finishing shot from much further away unfortunately.

I talked with Valerio at the DSC and he showed me the video on his phone and explained it, which he does at the end of the video that is posted.
As a side note, I was talking to another PH, Nick Nolte and his wife Isabel, at the show and told him I thought it was crazy to go into the bush at night after a wounded leopard. His response was that he prefers going in at night and that it was much safer than in the daylight. I was shocked by this and he explained that at night, he uses a bright flashlight (torch) and that gives him the advantage in two ways. First, he can see the cats eyes glowing so he can see the cat, whereas in the daylight, the spotted coat makes it very difficult to locate the cat. Second, the light blinds the cat and he can't really see "what" to attack, whereas in the daylight, he can plan his attack and will be at full speed before you can react. Makes perfect sense now, but when I watch the videos of them going in the bush at night armed with a flashlight and a gun by themselves, I think they are freakin' nuts.

I think I need to change my shorts….wow!

Something to be said about hunting when the leaves are gone.

When we followed up on @buffybr Leopard it was quite strange for me. It had been a significant period of time before everyone hit the bush to find the cat. I just had a feeling about Kurt that day. His confidence was high and he was no longer nervous before he left camp to hunt the Leopard. I believed that the Leopard was dead. I am glad it was true, since I had paralleled the whole show by ten yards and only carried my big white gun. If Kurt had been nervous, there is no way I would have gone into the bush unarmed. (Perhaps I am nuts)
It is amazing what a good team in the bush can do.

@Firebird Not this season.

Likely did not use the scope and just looked over it. At that range...fight=front sight. A consumate professional for sure and why everyone should shoot clay targets with a shotgun.

I could be wrong but it seems to me that the ph gave his gun to the tracker and used the clients gun. Thus the scope on the gun. You can see the ph had the gun back to the client saying that is the gun that killed the leopard. Client is carrying it later as well. No oh I know make the client carry his gun.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
