SE Louisiana FNG

Welcome to AH Spearhead.

Finally decided to sign up to learn as much as I can . I’m retired Army living in south east Louisiana. Been here for 54 years. Budget doesn’t afford me the opportunity to go to Africa, but it will be enjoyable reading about other hunters that have gone . Thanks for a great and informative site.
@Spearheaded
The budget may not afford it at the moment but if you want to go you will find a way. It is not as dear as you think especially if you do A cull hunt. You WILL find that even a plains game hunt is cheaper than an elk or moose hunt.
I felt the same way but end up in Namibia with my wife and son.
You will find a lot of good deals on this site as well.
Bob

Abita Springs. I am hopeful a trip over to Africa is doable. I have it real bad for a Gemsbok and Kudu. I finally stopped dreaming of a Buffalo. Never hurts to wish though.
@Spearheaded
Kudu and gemsbuck are very doable and reasonably priced in Namibia. In 2019 I set a budget of 8,000AUD and that included kudu, gemsbuck, 2 zebra and6 other head of game including black wildebeest. I would have liked a blue wildebeest as well but hey maybe another time.
Bob.

Hello Spearhead,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

As others have said, you might be quite pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive Africa can be.
Not too many years ago, I know I was quite pleasantly surprised to discover how affordable Africa turned out to be.

When you have a few spare minutes, have a peep into the Khomas web site.
Ours is not a game fenced / farm raised stock type of outfit.
It is true free range / truly wild game, in the mountains of hunter friendly Namibia.
As such, we don’t have money tied up in miles and miles of 10’ high fence costs and we don’t have money tied up in buying cattle truck loads of game animals.
Therefore, without those added expenses, we offer wonderful hunting at very affordable prices.

Even if you don’t hunt with Khomas, please do visit Africa sometime.
You will not regret it, life is short and the world is an interesting place (especially Africa).

“I spent most of my money on proper rifles and big game hunting.
The rest I just wasted”.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.
@Velo Dog
I have only hunted Namibia and it is a most wonderful place to hunt at good prices. The people, the culture and the hunting are 2nd to none in my book
The thing @Spearheaded needs to watch is the unscrupulous people th at charge for kudu depending on size. The bigger the dearer. I know you don't operate like that and every hunt report I have read about Kohmas is nothing but glowing. The same as the outfit I hunted with.
Bob

Any advice how to find a legitimate PH/operation that would be a great first trip?
@Spearheaded
Andrew read some of the hunt reports on this forum it will give you some ideas of who is good and not so good. Ring the people personally and get a feel for them as well. I hunted with Osambahe Nord safaris run and owned by Harold and Liezel. He is the owner of his property and his wife's father an ex PH owns the other property. This saves him leasing concessions. He gives prices in AUD,USD, Euro and pounds. Having the price in Australian dollars was good as I didn't have to worry about currency fluctuations. He is also the PH and hunts are limited to one group at a time. His trackers are all Kalahari bushmen and can track an ant across a rock. The food is exceptional and despite how much walking we did we all put on weight it was that good. We arrived as clients and left as family. There are others on this site that will provide a similar experience.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

X5i scope is perfect - thanks for an easy transaction! Buy with confidence.
Made it to Augusta Georgia yesterday for a meeting, hunt bookings are looking good for 2026 and 2027, had a great time on our Alabama safari shot a rutting deer at 200 yards with 7mm PRC near Huntsville and then headed on to Butler Alabama and semi guided my first deer ever shot a very nice broken off 8 point with hunter there and spend a few days on 1100 acres hunting preserve awesome place!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
