Beautiful rifle. Like to see a few more pics of the wood.

If you decide to mount a scope...the Sako 85's have a tendency to have the ejected shell impact the scope turret and fall back into the loading gate causing a jam. I've heard of people who have turned their scopes 90 degrees counterclockwise to prevent this from happening. Although you will need a scope with no turret on the left side and a reticle that will look OK once rotated.

@TOBY458 had this issue and he rotated his scope. I do not have any personal experience with the Sako brand, but they look to be very nice rifles.

Let us know how it shoots.

Any hunts planned for it or is it just one of those I had to have ones?

It is going to be a blast to shoot!

I considered a 505 Gibbs once, so glad I wasn't into the scotch at the time or I am sure it would be in my safe.

Awesome calibers. Into the scotch a bit now, so that's all I got.

Congratulations on your new rifle!!

Let us know how it shoots! I almost bought one pre-COVID, but put it off too long. Now it sounds like they’re about impossible to get...
That's what I've heard if I understood correct, I literally just got the call today it was in. I was at an outfitters this past March who explained the Halt on Sako's 500 upon research, I thought it was a loss...

@BeeMaa I've never had a problem with ejection on my Sako 85 300 wm or Sako AV 338 wm. Perhaps it is a problem with certain cartridges, but one should be careful about making generalizations, especially on a rifle you have no experience with.

That was the @TOBY458 Buffalo rodeo ? It didn't sound like much fun. Made for a great story though!

Why would someone make a video with a scope electric taped onto a rifle, with the extra high rings sitting on top of the scope bases? That is just a wee bit ridiculous.
To prove a point that the echo chamber of the internet is often ridiculous.

From my time here I would respect the opinion of BeeMaa, before someone who makes a video of a scope electric taped onto a rifle ejecting cartridges that have not been fired. I fail to see he proved any point.
I fail to see the point of listening to a guy pontificate on a rifle he has never owned

My rifle is a 375 H&H and it absolutely has the ejection problem that some speak of. The 30/06 size cases have never been the issue. It's mostly 375 H&H. Not sure how the 416 Rigby or 500 J would work out.
I had my 375 fail to eject on two separate buffalo hunts. Once in Australia and once in Africa. And I was working the action pretty fast on both occasions. Just make sure if you mount a scope, and plan to use the rifle on DG, to check out the feed and function before going on your hunt.

It is a forum on Africa hunting, we come here to listen to people pontificate.

I love the original posters rifle, would love to try that caliber. I think most sakos are nice rifles. I just find taping a scope to a rifle quite funny.

I don't want to get into an internet pissing contest. I hope you found his video informative, I did not.

Sako A7 is a push feed action with button ejector, so it doesn't have the same action as the 85. The 85 has a standing ejector in the 6 o'clock position, which sometimes ejects the rounds upward into the scope, rather than out the side as intended.

Well my pontification on the sako 85 300WM Is that I actually own one and have taken it to Africa twice and have never had any issue with it .
Regarding the video , yes it kind of funny . That guy is a character . Peace brother . Goodnight

Funny thing is, I just got my trophies today. The hole in the Buffalo skull from the 470 is a reminder of this very same hunt we are discussing here.....

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

X5i scope is perfect - thanks for an easy transaction! Buy with confidence.
Made it to Augusta Georgia yesterday for a meeting, hunt bookings are looking good for 2026 and 2027, had a great time on our Alabama safari shot a rutting deer at 200 yards with 7mm PRC near Huntsville and then headed on to Butler Alabama and semi guided my first deer ever shot a very nice broken off 8 point with hunter there and spend a few days on 1100 acres hunting preserve awesome place!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
