So I was pounding away on the keyboard in our non-therapeutic "Politics" thread and decided that I seriously needed a single malt. Walking by the patio door, I decided to pick up the 5.56 on which I have Thor thermal optics mounted and see if there were any uninvited visitors in the pecans. Sure enough, at 8:30 PM and 300 meters away, I could detect a swarm of bright spots on the low ridge next to the river. Incredible technology. Only Apaches had that capability when I was on active duty. Anyway, the wind was perfect so I simply walked down through the pasture until I was forty yards away from 15 to 20 of them, leaned against a tree, picked out a big one and wacked it behind the ear with a 67 gr SP. Simply amazing ability to shoot without an external light - IR or otherwise.

The rifle was built by a friend in the business and has a incredibly accurate match barrel.

OK, but don't laugh too loud. 08/11/1978, Monterey County, Californicate. Three pigs L to R 174lbs., 174lbs., 141lbs. (mine). I'm on the left with my 1976 Winchester M 70 .270, handloaded Sierra 130gr. BT, and my brother Greg with his Remington M788 .308, handloaded Sierra 165gr. BT. I tried to find a single malt and Thermal scope before the hunt, but all I could find was Coors beer and Bushnell (original) scopes for the rifles? Ha! Ha! FYI, this photo was clicked off a Polaroid. Remember those? Oh yeah, it was the only pig I’ve ever shot.

I shot a couple of pigs at a friend's ranch last week. One at about 210 yards--head shot with my Model 70 Super Grade maple in 300 winmag. The other one came in to a feeder at about 50 yards and the 300 winmag decapitated him.

How come you didn't use one of your double rifles on that pig? Most of the photos I've seen on here with you and your harvested game, have a double rifle in the photo. Just curious?

Busting bacon is something I truly love doing... and unlike many, I actually enjoy eating tx hogs...

I’ve turned in for the night at this point.. but will dig out my new favorite hog hammer and get a pic or two up in the morning...

DIY AR15 in 458 SOCOM with a sightmark wraith day/night vision 3-14x optic..

With the sniperhog IR that I have mounted I can see pretty clearly out to about 200 on a dark night, and can make out grainy images as far as 300... the 458 SOCOM is really only good to about 150 yards tops though... so once I see something at a distance I’ve either got to move to it... or wait for it to come to me..

Prior to building the 458 I switched back and forth between an AR in 556 and a little Ruger American in 308...

I’ve also got a 350 legend AR that I’m anxious to try out on the piggies.. basically 30-30 ballistics with about 20% less recoil than a 243... with a 30 round mag... that’s a whole lot of whoop ass in a pretty small/compact package for those times you stroll up on a sounder and want to take them ALL [emoji846]

Kansas needs to transplant some from Texas. Ha! Ha! In reality, if Kansas had wild hogs, there wouldn’t be a stalk of milo or corn left and thus no pheasants either. They would eat all the silage meant for cattle. It would be an agricultural disaster. Neither Texas or California and maybe other states can control their population.

Alas, in my backyard there are not wild boars, but a 12-million megacity. Although, by the way, it happens that moose and wild boar wander through the system of forest parks.
