Looks like quite a hunt. Was this in Mozambique? Very pretty rifle but I’ll stick to my 470. Shot a 700 once[emoji56][emoji56]
Since I am never going to try a .700, you'll have to tell me what it's like . . . please!

Seems a bit excessive for any purpose, so I have to wonder what the point is.

The point is why not. To quote Velo dog an elephant can be taken with a well placed frozen herring but why do it. Just like that a 700NE has its place. Man has always pushed the fields of engineering and the 700NE is a prime example. I have always looked at what people see as excessive as an engineering success. Just my 2 pence worth (thats right I'm British).

It is a beautiful rifle.

Verney-Carron would be my first choice for a double once I can make it a reality. But, nothing like a 700

It sure seems to dump the Buffalo when they are facing away. Holy!

Love the VC's, but a .700NE and it's roughly 9000 ft-lbs of energy? Well my middle finger on my shooting hand takes enough of a hit from my .470 and it's mere 5000 ft-lbs.

But to anyone who wants it and can handle it, go forth and prosper!

I would argue that since we have the .577 and .600NE the .700 is and was always utterly redundant. The .700 came along only because H&H refused to build a .600 to a rich and spoiled American ( Bill Feldstein).

Not to mock Bill though...he hunted hard in Ethiopia for ele several times and shot a 100 pounder with an old british .600 ..:Cigar:

But besides, the .700 have earned a reputation for not penetrating on elephant...and who wants to lug around a 17-19 pound rifle..??

It’s just about enjoying yourself, so if a .700 spins your wheels... go for it!

If you can afford one, and the safaris to suit it, I’m sure carrying it can be managed with a couple of extra guys taking turns.

I did think it would floor that cape buff first shot

700 Nitro Express: Kills on one end and maims on the other. :E Rofl:

The hunt took place in Mozambique Coutada 14. The outfitter was Sebastian Wicker. We shot 14 Buffalos in one week. Such an incredible experience to be hunting with the 700NE. We shot Woodleigh bullets, 1,000gr bullets and 12,000 Joules of energy. As you can see in the video, the recoil is absolutely manageable because of the weigh and balance of the rifle which weighs 20 lbs or 9 kg.

"A rich and spoiled American" - seriously? You would think that was written by some Scandinavian socialist. :Pompus:

Old Bill must have been onto something back in 1988 - Holland will now build you a .600 or .700 (though I fully agree - why would anyone want to hunt with something as cumbersome as a Squad Automatic Weapon is beyond me).

Have hunted Coutada 14 twice (and sat up one evening with Sebastian's father Tony way too late over a bottle of schnapps!) and the quantity of buffalo has to be seen to be believed. Great video and VC builds a great rifle. Thanks for being part of this community!!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
