Hello fellow hunters,

Just wondered if anybody has one of the above on a 400 calibre rifle?? If so how does it hold up? Im thinking about one in 3 moa but just want to get some opinions on it.

Many thanks

I havent..

That said Vortex has a great warranty and some of the best customer service in the industry.. So risk is minimal..

I would be concerned that they advertise it as an option for AR rifles and pistols..

Vortex is pretty good about answering questions about their products on the Q&A section on their website.. Im betting they would get back with you about their recommendation(s) within a day or two tops..

Actually.. I just looked through their Q&A.. it looks like they have already advised that it will stand up to a .458 win mag and that they would cover it under warranty as well.

Well tomorrow will be my second time out with my sabatti 416 rigby. Ive only used the irons so far and I think I'm just getting used to the rifle. That being said I find the sights very crude and a bit too big at 100 yards.

Vortex has a great reputation for durable scopes! I can't imagine that their red dots are any different. I have two of their scopes. One is on a .223 and the other is on a .450 bushmaster. Both have been fine. I would put one on my .416 but it already has a 1.5-5 Leupold on it. That said, their customer service rivals that of leupod. If it breaks, send it back and they will fix or replace it post haste.

FWIW I was down at DSC yesterday doing some volunteer work and saw a couple of booths selling vortex venoms.. both had them priced as a "show special" for $209 if anyone is going to the show and is looking to pick one up..

Mine holds up on my turkey gun shooting 3 1/2 inch loads.

I highly recommend vortex. Great products

I have a few Vortex on my rifles, none are on large calibers 30 cal and under. That being said I have sent their scopes in for warranty work and the turn around time is very fast. They even replaced a scope that was bent

I believe Vortex’ reputation for durable scopes is sketchy. I used to sell scopes and firearms and we had more returns on Vortex scopes than any other brand except for bubble pack scopes and excluding Razors. Their mini red dots are another story. I have a Razor mini red dot I’ve been pleased with. When the Venom came out I could get 16 Vortex optics a year at 60% off MSRP so I tried to order one. Retail comes before dealer program sales so Venoms were backordered 8 months before I could get one at 60% off. Spring turkey season was just around the corner and I’d just bought a new dedicated turkey gun so I bought a Burris Fastfire 3 which I also got dealer pricing on - 60% off MSRP. It has held up well. I’ve heard rumors that the Venom and FF3 are the same item, only difference being the dot intensity settings, there are more on the Venom. I’m not 100% sure but pretty close to sure they are the same red dot, made in the same factory.

I’d be willing to give a Venom a try on a .400.

I have 2 Vortex Venom. One on my Springfield Armory XD-9, the other on my Benelli SBEII turkey gun.

The one on the turkey gun crapped the bed after a few boxes of 3.5" turkey loads. Sent it back and haven't had a problem with the new one since. My turkey gun kicks like a mule with the 3.5" loads, much worse than my 375H&H. It moves my 65# leadsled about 2" to the rear every time you pull the trigger. I don't have a .400 or larger to compare it to, but I imagine it can't be much worse than the Benelli.

No problems with the one on my pistol with hundreds of rounds through it. I like being able to change the battery from the top, without having to remove it from the firearm.

I trust Vortex, but that failure has me wary. If it were me, I'd look at the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro. This also has a top load battery compartment.

Just my .02, good luck with it.

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
