Winchester Model 70 “Custom” Super Grade “Express” 375 H&H Mag. N.I.B.

They are very rare. They have the larger magazine box, and higher grade wood. They also had island leaf sights. They came in .375 Holland, .416 Remington and .458 Lott (or Win Mag, not sure). One year only they were made in .416 Rigby. They all sold in the range of $4500 during the years they were made. The only one I know of that sold in recent years was to an AH member about 2 1/2 years ago from a Cabela's. Don't know what he paid. I have never seen one in person. I would expect to pay in the $6000 range range for the Rigby since they are less common than the others, and around $5000 at least for the others IF you can find one and the owner wants to sell. They look more like a Rigby than a Winchester. Good luck, and if you find one, post lots of photos!

Thanks for the info. I am fully aware of all details of the Custom African Express. I was in hope that this rifle might have been one of the few. Winchester really got it right on this one!

Thank you again, I already have the pictures & all info, everything but the rifle! As to the Rigby I would gladly trade my currently made .416 Rigby for this rifle. Mind you not my original pre war .416 Rigby. There is no comparison between the two!!!

I wish you the best of luck in finding one!

It sure caught my attention, although it is not the "Custom African Express"!

Any .416 Taylor’s NIB? Ha! Ha!

I know this is an old post. But just curious if this rifle sold or not. Any updates?
This rifle was never for sale based on this thread. They were made for a few short years. I have never seen one in person. The last one I saw advertised on line (5 or 6 years ago) The owner was asking $6000 for it. This thread was mainly Lon Denney and myself discussing this rifle. Neither of us owned one.

I have had two of the Custom African Express models in 416 Rem. They are exceptionally nice. I sold one and still have the other. The best model 70 for Africa in my opinion but they don’t come up for sale often (as noted)

Have owned two huh.....Lucky Man! PM me if you ever run across one in .416 Rigby or .375 HH

Yeah, lucky I guess. I always kinda wanted one in 458 Lott. Have seen them for sale in 458 Lott, 416 Rem (obviously), and 375 H&H for sale over the last 20 years but the total number could probably be counted on one hand. Never seen or heard of one in 416 Rigby (or any other factory M70 for that matter). Also, didn’t see that offering in the catalog archives. Thus, if one does exist, I would have to think it is an extremely rare bird.

The African Express was produced in .416 Rigby in 2006 only. It's listed in the above attachment I placed in this thread in 2017.

Ahh. I see that now. Very nice. A Custom African Express in 416 Rigby would definitely be a sweet rig.

The thing is, if I ever found one and because of its rarity, it may cost as much as a Rigby....and I probably couldn't afford it.

Very true. Then I would rather have the Rigby. [emoji3]

There is a LH 375 H&H model on Gunbroker right now but listed for big $$.

That is without question an African Express, first left hand model I have ever seen.

I think it is probably the first LH one I have seen too. Also, the first one I have seen for sale of any type in some time

Is this the newer model with the claw extractor and control feed like the pre-64??

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
