CZ Feed Issues

Well I just got my new CZ 550 in 375H&H. Took it out to shoot this weekend and was having feed issues. It was always the last round from the mag. It wouldn't jump from the mag and would hang the case shoulder at the corner of the feed ramp. I had read that some people had issues with the CZ feeding I guess I fall into this unlucky category.

FYI - the ammo was factory green box Remington. 270 gr.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'll be watching this thread.
I have bought the same rifle and with me its the second round in the magazine, on the left side, that won't feed. All the others feed perfectly.
My gun is going to a gunsmith on Wednesday and I will report back as to if and how the problem is solved.

The CZ is the rifle most recommended and used by the Field Guide members in Southern Africa, but it is subject to a number of small items that needs attention.
1. Have your bolt polished and see that the extractor do have a proper fit over the case rim.
2. Have the ramp polished, and in some rifles cut away to a lower edge. Some rifles may even require the ramp to be slightly off centre.
3. Check if you have a magazine for your specific caliber. Sometimes a non-matching box is supplied. If ok then...
3. Have the magazine narrowed by having some ridges roll formed on the sides. The magazines tend to be too wide and the back end of the rounds drop to far down to be picked up easily (less "double" stack, more "single" stack).
4. With some magazines a bit of polishing of the magazine lips may be required, and in the worst case, a little bending also.

There are a lot of other recommendations that can be sent to you, but the above, done by a good and patient gunsmith should do. A friend and myself both have CZ 550's in 404 Jeff calibers. Beautiful rifles, handle very well and very accurate.
Enjoy.

contact Wayne at AHR. as far as I'm concerned he's one of the best in the states when it comes to working on CZ rifles.

If brand new and you don't want to spend anything else then send it back to CZ. They will fix the feeding issue.

It's a pretty common issue.... the rifle I shot the buff in my avatar with had to go back.

Thanks for the advice but I am in SA so AHR is unfortunately not an option.
My rifle went back to the local CZ agents, Formalito, today and their gunsmith will look at it.
Underdog, are you based in SA?

EZRider I am in the US. I contacted CZ and they were very responsive and pleasant to deal with. I am probably going to send it to them shortly. I will keep everyone posted on my experience working with CZ USA.

Hi Underdog, I received my CZ back from the SA importers, Formalito, and it now feeds perfectly.
Kudos to them for fixing my gun with no charge. Sure it was under warranty but it is still pleasing when such are honored.
Let us know how you're coming along with yours.

Good to hear you got great service.

I also had problem with my CZ375 feeding, had the ramp smoothed out,

My is at CZ now. The process has been smooth to this point. I just received a confirmation email from them that it had arrived. I will keep everyone posted on the progression.

Well I got my rifle back from CZ and I am going to take it out for a test run this weekend. I will let everyone know if the feed issue has been resolved.

Hope it works well for you!

Agree, send it back to CZ to have it fixed. They will probably just send you a new one that doesn't have the issue. Down the road if you want any additional work done, Wayne at AHR is very good. I had Wayne add a 3 pos M70 type safety and single stage trigger to my CZ 550 375 H&H (nothing wrong with it, just personal preference). Later, Harlan at Triple River Gunsmithing rebarreled / rechambered my 375 H&H to 500 Jeffery and also did a lovely job. (they do almost all of the CZ Custom Shop work)

I don't mean to spend your $$$ or rip on CZs but don't you want to go the full distance? For another about $250 you can get a Mauser / mod 70 safety shroud installed.

My thinking is if you buy a $1000 CZ and get the feed fixed and a better safety and a trigger job and an oil finish, along with some accurizing, you're out $2500 and have pretty darn close to a magnum square bridge Mauser in the end.

I have no misgivings about the CZ other than the dreadful safety. (I'm safety biased)

About 10 years ago when I got my CZ 550 in 375 H&H I sent it to Wayne for his CZ Upgrade #1 Dollars well spent. It includes a M70 type 3 position safety, a single stage match trigger which is outstanding and straighten and fill the bolt handel Wayne is an outstanding guy and I'm sure will be able to fix your feeding problems as well. Highly recommended.

At what point are you all noticeing issues? , I just bought a CZ 550 in .416 Rigby at a local gun show. It's been to the range, but I've only fired 10 rounds through it, slowly but haven't seen any problems yet. Do you load and cycle the action quickly to test it, or have the issues been apparent through normal range firing?

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike
