Torn between two calibers

Excellent choice. You can load up for the nasty critters and shoot reduced loads for deer etc. I like my BRNO 602 in 375HH. I used the Hornady 220gr FP for those big nasty groundhogs. Stopped a charge instantly :D

Get a 375 H&H then as yoda says

I vote for .375. I have shot Impala to Cape Buffalo on my first safari. I am leaving in a few weeks for Africa and plan to use it for Elephant, lion and plains game all the way down to Springbok and Warthog.

It is truly a versatile gun with 350 grain solids for elephant and 235 grain Barnes only dropping 6.1" at 300 yards.

I have both, you didn't state if the budget would allow for 2 or just one? My last two safari's I have used a 9.3x74 in a double and a single shot. The 9.3 and 405 are very close in power. The 405 has a much smaller bullet selection. The 9.3 bullets have a much SD and BC so it will give you better performance at longer ranges. I finished a custom 9.3x62 a couple months ago and it will go with me on the next trip. I also just put a deposit on a C-Sharps 1975 in 405 just because. Since they are in the same ball park I would reccommend the 9.3x62 if only one and if the budget allows for 2 get a 404 Jeffery or 416 rigby.

"1975" C.Sharpso_O:eek::D??????

I was actually making fun of your misstated century.:p:D:eek::rolleyes: I have had a C Sharps 1874 .45-70 for a long time.

Don't you just hate it when your sarcasm gets completely missed? :)

Well I am a engineer and spelling isn't one of my strength's, but Sharps did make a 1875 model, and C-Sharps does a replica of. I wanted something different from the 45/90 and 50/70 1874's that I have.

I had myself convinced to just stick with my Howa 30-06, but......I just won an auction for a Howa in 375 Ruger, so it looks like a pair of Howa's will be making the trip. Not the traditional caliber that I was originally looking for, but my Howa is a shooter. I've been shooting 3-4 rounds a few nights a week from unknown distances from improvised field rests. Here are today's results, resting against a tree at approximately 90 yards.

Tell you what chap! If thats how your doing with your 375 ruger just take that and leave the 30-06! Why take two rifles when one would do.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
