Klippie




Took this guy on day 3 with Justin Cawood and Arc Africa Hunting with the help of Chris Troskie and his beautiful Defender . We had been in this area on the first day and Sami (tracker) had seen one Klippspringer but me and Justin did not have the chance to see it. Anyway after a couple of hours scouting a ridge without seeing anything we started to carefully just walk up to see if anything was moving. With Justin and Sami just walking infront of me I got a glimpse of a female klippie.

Females almost always have the male nearby so we just went down and waited and after 15 minutes the male showed his side and one shot later it was over. A great hunt in a great area that I will remember from this trip!

Brown Hyena

Justin emailed me a few months before the hunt and said that the area held brown hyenas and that he could apply for a permit if it was interesting for me.
I have taken a few spotted hyenas in earlier hunts and have tried for a brown hyena for 10 years ago in Namibia but failed. Anyway I said yes to Justin knowing that it would not so big chance to get one because of my short trip.








We had some problems getting them to the baits but on day 4 we got one on our trail camera but he did not eat just looked at bait and walked away, we sat that night for around 6 hours but only a honey badger came in.

The last day we switched to a new area that had been baited for a long time but even there it was no new hit the last few days.
1 hour in the blind and I had seen a wildcat, big warthog, genet and around 1930 (1,5 hour in the blind) my hyena came in.

He walked up to the bait and just before taking the first bite he got a 30.06 in the heart. Rolled around dead on the spot!

Happy days! And this was my last night of hunt ! A great hunt for sure!

Mountain Reedbuck

The first day we walked up and down those hills for 6 hours and had a cat and mouse game with a few reedbucks, a great first day in a beautiful area.

Did not get any shot op that day but was very close. Very short distances and quite thick vegetation made it hard.

On day 3 we spotted one walking slowly and I made a bad first shot and missed, we walked up to the place he stood and to our surprise we could spot him again 80 meters away and I did a better shot and a nice mountain reedbuck down.

Duiker

This animal had also eluded me on earlier hunts.

We saw several duikers each day but mostly females and very young males and me not so fast with the rifle to get a shot at the big ones
On day 4 we found a nice male bedded down and I got a shot away and had my duiker!

Really liked the company and hunt during this week, very good food and a beautiful camp, great tracker and PH.

Im using a 5dmark2 and a 5dmark3 with a 85 1.2 , 14mm 2.8 , 24-70 2.8 and a 400mm

Simply amazing photos ...... stunning! Are you sure you're not a photographer for National Geographic? If not, you certainly could be. Also, very neat to read about Justin and Chris making this such a successful safari, AH at its best.
