My friend of 60 years, friends since we were 10, got offical permission from wife to take international fishing trips with me.

Any personal recommendation of charter lodge and captain would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Bob

Several friends of mine have gone with these folks. The pictures they brought back look just like the ones on the website. Tina wants to go so bad she can't stand it, but Namibia will have to come first.

In panama I really like inland fishing honestly.. there are several charters that will take you onto the Chagris River (the Panama Canal) for really affordable prices.. and the peacock bass fishing (among other species) is really good.. theyre not as big as peacocks found in other parts of the world.. but they are plentiful, and you'll be pulling them in all day..

and if youre staying in Panama City, you can be on the Chagris via Lake Gatun in less than an hour from your hotel (possibly as quickly as 30 minutes depending on where you are staying)..

Check out The Zancudo Lodge in Costa Rica. First class in every way, but especially the fishing!

I have heard great things about tropic star lodge, supposed to be some of the best fishing in the world
Ehhhh.... I have a friend that has been down there 3 times at $15K per trip trying to catch a Marlin and never did, but he did get a nasty case of food poisoning that required hospitalization on the last trip.

I can highly recommend Costa Rica on the Pacific side - I prefer to fish out of Quepos and highly recommend "Quepos fishing Adventure" - Quepos is 1.5hrs from the airport in San Jose.

If your looking for something higher end, you can fish out of Jaco which is only 1hr from the airport.

Tucan Limo service can pick you up from the airport and take you directly to where you are fishing.

That's interesting about your friend, and tropic star lodge. I fished Crocodile Bay in Costa Rica, it's supposed to be great as well, but we didn't catch any sailfish or Marlin. Apparently a hurricane had wreaked havoc on the fishing the year I went.

Last time I went out of Quepos, 3 men fishing for 3 days on one boat and we caught......
7 marlin
3 sail fish
3 wahoo
27 yellowfin tuna
50+ Mahi Mahi - we lost count on the 3rd day because we had multiple hooked up for over an hour.

Thank you for the info!

What time of year did you fish?
What was name of boat? name of captain?

We went in early November - The owner of that boat has since sold it; fair warning though it was a FAD trip so we were on the boat for 3 days straight; if your not up for spending 3 days on a boat just go with multiple day trips.

Contact captain John at.....

We typically try to schedule it when the sailfish are NOT in migration, once you have experienced catching 10-15 of those a day it gets annoying.

Also you CAN fly back with fish - get yourself one of the soft yetis that's not big enough for oversized baggage and some freezer packs, last time I flew back with $2K+ of Mahi & yellowfin.

Take these with you and have the hotel throw them in the freezer as soon as you get there, when you depart just pile the fish fillets(in ziplocks - bring them also)

I am very familiar with fishing the Pacific Coast in Central America. I’m one of the anglers representing Team USA in the Panamerican Billfish Championship next month in Panama.

If you want to fish Panama, then Tropic Star Lodge is the place. It is remote and it is a fishing trip.

In Costa Rica, you have many other choices and lots of activities to choose from outside of fishing. The fishing itself is great.

Guatemala has a great Sailfish fishery.

All three countries have a different vibe.

Pacific fishing in Central America is seasonal. Be sure and schedule your trip when the species you are interested in is readily available.

I could go on for hours on the topic. Feel free to reach out to me at my email address which is my username at gmail.com if you would like to discuss over the phone.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
