Gents, I have an R8, with 3 barrels, thanks to the fellow hunters on this forum. I initially bought a synthetic stock because I shoot LH, but my son is RH, and the synthetic works with either bolt. After some years, though, I’d like to get a nice wood stock. Much appreciate guidance on which firms you think have the best wood. I’ve traded with EuroOptic and Cove Creek, for barrels and the receiver, but have always felt that picking exquisite wood stocks is a different pursuit. Thanks for any advice on this. R.

Have you called Blaser USA to ask about options? Also, another option might be Mad Dog Guns, which is the largest US dealer for Blaser I believe. He seems to have a lot of in stock guns, parts, etc and it would be worth a phone call to find out. I'm assuming you know that Blaser "exquisite" wood is not going to be cheap. Some of their high end Luxus type options cost as much as a nice hunt in Africa.

Are you asking which Blaser Dealer has the best wood for a Jaeger or Luxus receiver?

I am unaware of any replacement wood stock for a Professional Synthetic except the out of production Classic.
Top Dog Guns Global is a big dealer.

BTW, I have an R8 professional and bought a wood stock from someone on this forum. Little did I know that the professional cannot be used with a wood stock. The professional attaches to the stock through the pistol grip, while the wood stock attach through the buttstock. So, I ended up buying a new Jaeger receiver to attach to the wood stock. For me it's been a bit of a struggle since the stock I bought did not have any of the hardware, but Blaser USA came through, and got me all the necessary parts. I will soon have two complete rifles. :D

"Mad Dog" from Gun Broker. Now, Idk. how far they get, but Grade 8 turns this into a $26,250. Rifle. Magnificent, however.

Here is the stock I bought for around $1100.00. The original owner stripped the glossy finish and finished the stock. I like the stock like this better.

I am either understanding you incorrectly or you do not understand Blaser R8s.

There are 2 systems that Blaser stocks work into. A steel or aluminum receiver that the Blaser internal chassis is integral to and a aluminum or steel internal chassis that is integrated into a synthetic stock.

You could pay someone to take the synthetic stock off and replace it. There are a ton of aftermarket companies mostly here in Europe that offer either carbon fiber or wood replacements for the Professional, Professional 2.0, Professional hunter, and Professional Success rifle stocks.

The Luxus, Jaeger, Selous, Intuition, Attache, Success (wood stock models) and ultimate X, and Kilombero have a two piece wood, synthetic or carbon fiber stock.

What you most likely want is the entire stock and receiver.

For the cost of the upgrade, you might as well travel to a dealer and hand select what they have in stock (pun intended).

There was a wood classic stock version in the professional system that they had to discontinue because of the number of them that cracked. As the wood was too thin.

There are two Blaser Dogs.

Mad Dog and Top Dog.

I recommend Top Dog, his name is Van.

Mad Dog has a bigger selection by a long shot.

I also recommend as others have done calling Blaser HQ in San Antonio and they can't ell you who has what.

Here is my Jaeger receiver with her new furniture, the caliber is a 9.3x62. :D

I really like the way the R8 wood success feels.

Blaser says that it won't ever break.

I am not sure about that, but I do like it.

You are correct, two receivers. One for wood stocks and the other for synthetic. Not sure about the thumbhole versions.

You need to be careful with the aftermarket stocks. Not all of them are rated up to 500J and several recommend bedding the barrel. This means it can only be used for the barrel profile chosen. All Blaser branded stocks and receivers are rated up to 500J, with any Blaser barrel for a lifetime plus with no additional work. Not saying they are better, just be informed of what you are REALLY getting.

I've dealt with both Van at Top Dog Guns Global and Mark at Mad Dog Guns. At one time they were a team, but not so much anymore. I agree with your assessment between the two and continue to go back to Van for most things.

It is not actually that simple.

The are two receivers. One with a single piece stock and one for two piece stocks.

There are wood, synthetic and carbon fiber one piece stocks.

The two piece stock the Blaser R8 system and receiver are internal.

The one piece stocks the Blaser R8 system sits in the stock.

This is a Jaeger receiver; it attaches to the stock though the buttstock. See picture. The Professional R8 complete rifle I have attaches to the buttstock through the pistol grip.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
