Since we’re talking about personal protection it looks like Ontario is getting as bad as blue cities in America. Intruder breaks into a home at 3am with a weapon and the occupant who beat up the intruder is arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

I guess people should just start disposing of the bodies, instead of calling the police. Lawyers are expensive.

Are there any civil court cases where a private individual (rather than, say, a police department) was held more liable in a defense shooting with a modified pistol?

that would be a question for LexisNexis, Westlaw, etc.. and an attorney with access to their databases that hold all US case law.. my guess is there have been more than a few cases since in the US people pretty much sue each other for everything from Stella Liebeck suing McDonalds for serving her hot coffee.. to Roy Peterson suing his dry cleaners for $67M in mental anguish after they lost his favorite pair of pants.. Ernie Chambers suing God in the Nebraska courts for all of the destruction and suffering He creates.. Our courts will hear just about any ridiculous case you can come up with..

My firm was sued in civil court for racial discrimination at one point... the plaintiff's only "evidence" brought forward was that the sheets we issued him for his bed were more itchy than other peoples sheets... even though he readily admitted they were the same brand of sheets that everyone else got.. and he was responsible for washing them in whatever detergent he wanted to use... thankfully the courts only allowed that case to go on for a very short while before they threw it out.. but.. it didnt prevent the plaintiff from filing his case, us having to hire a team of attorneys to defend us, and a couple of months of back and forth BS between the law firms and the courts and tens of thousands of dollars spent before it was all over with... It was an obvious shakedown attempt.. he thought we'd pay him a hefty sum to go away... his ambulance chasing attorney thought the same thing.. we just refused to play the game with them..

If you read the article it not only speaks to civil liability.. it also speaks to the Zimmerman case (not a police officer) and how the political environment created a push for criminal charges to be filed even though the police and the prosecutors office had no interest in the case at all.. they viewed it as 100% justifiable.. so the governor pushed the state AG to pursue via a special prosecutor.. the case made national news for months.. the attorney being interviewed provides corollary as to how the same thing can happen in the case of modified firearms..

The point of the linked article, the instructors that taught the armorers course, the law enforcement liability cases that were cited (as well as the security guard case that was cited), etc.. was opening any additional window of liability for a prosecuting attorney to climb through (whether criminal or civil) is not a wise decision.. even if you're found "innocent" by the courts.. the amount of money you are going to pay in defense is not going to be small.. the amount of time and energy you are going to spend are going to be greater than the huge amount of money youre going to pay, etc..etc..

If someone wants to CCW a modified firearm.. by all means, do it... theres nothing inherently illegal about it (assuming all CCW laws are otherwise being followed)...

However if firearms manufacturers like Glock and Sig are telling you "dont do it"... attorneys that specialize in self defense shooting cases are telling you "dont do it"... and there is prior case law proving that civil and criminal prosecutors will take advantage of every opportunity to pursue you for it... I wouldnt be surprised if that same person doesnt end up seriously regretting their decision if/when they ever actually have to use a firearm in a self defense situation..

^^^ even the name of the bullet used in shootings has been brought into court.

This guy thinks he’s Charles Bronson or the Punisher. He’s out looking for people to shoot.

I can tell you from personal history that the insinuations against me were even more ridiculous and trivial. But could have been very serious. (Things I said after the incident to by standers and police, and I didn’t act scared enough.

Play Mr Roger’s not John Rambo

Speaking of weak blue city judicial punishment. a man here in Tucson was sentenced to only 1.5 years for entering a school with a gun and making threats.

And honestly, there is no CCW that doesn’t have a modified, world class version for $5k that is pre-configured. If you want modified, buy one that comes pre tuned. Bad example: HK professional, tactical, and precision models of their standard HKs.

A good example SVI - Infinity firearms.

I have a pair of their .40 S&W 2011 competition guns and a CCW version of their 2011 in 9mm (all with iron sights as I am old fashioned).

Here is one, the other looks the same as well.

SSS can work for bipeds as well as quadrupeds,

That could happen to you in Germany too.
It's understandable that totalitarian ideologies try to take over the democratic Western system.
Stupid as we are.

Like many cases of this sort, the worst time to comment on them is when the charge is laid, and the best time to comment on them is when the case is resolved.

In this case the intruder was air lifted to a trauma hospital with life threatening injuries, and last I heard, had not yet regained consciousness. Thus the police so far have one side of the story.

Where someone has suffered serious injury, or could die the police would be pretty negligent to not charge the other party so they can do a full investigation while the evidence is still available.

You can tell how seriously (or more accurately not) the police are taking the situation so far by the fact that they let the occupant go on a POA (Promise to Appear) rather than getting bail terms etc.

There's generally a reason your lawyer tell you to do or not do something. I make money every time client don't listen.

Birds of Magyar is the Ukrainian Army's first and probably most effective drone unit. Its original commander, Robert Brovdi now commands all regular army tactical attack drone units. His call sign is Magyar which is how this unit took its name. About once a week it publishes as compilation of strikes.

They underscore a number of issues that I wish this administration would somehow comprehend.

1) Note the vehicles that the Russians are employing in their assaults. Their armor has been annihilated, so they are sending kids (and old men) into the attack on motorcycles, ATVs, and afoot across open fields. Regardless of the base population differential, these casualty exchange ratios are unsustainable.

2) Is it any wonder that Ukraine is unwilling to give up ground when Russia is failing so miserably to achieve any consequential gains. For instance the Russians opened an offensive in Donetsk six days prior to the Trump summit. The last elements of that force was destroyed over the last two days returning the front lines to their original trace.

3) Finally, we and the rest of NATO need to figure out an effective counter tactical drone solution and deploy it before we get into our next fight. Put an impenetrable energy or engagement bubble around a tank or an armored formation, and they will be as formidable as ever. Don't and they will be little more than targets.

The second video demonstrates how quickly Ukraine is advancing the technology. These are fiber optic controlled drones. Each drone spools out a thread like control line kilometers long. Because it is hard wire controlled, jamming is not effective. As a result, they are not limited to line of sight comms. They will require a directed munition or energy solution.

Very informative, thank you for sharing.

I have been reading some articles suggesting that the tank is now obsolete, and being a former zipperhead myself I hope this is not true.

Finding ways to protect AFV's from drones either must be near the top of the West's military research priorities or, hopefully, they already have some potential solutions in the bank.

Mobile microwave is gaining a lot of traction as an area protection system. This is not a jamming technology, but essentially fries the electronic components.

The Germans are fielding a kinetic solution which would also be effective against conventional aircraft.

Too bad you can't countersue these a$$holes for the expenses incurred to your firm, so stuff like this would stop.

A good friend of mine was brought up on charges for apparently sexually harassing a troop. Investigation by the OSI, drama at home, loss of command, to find out everything was prefabricated and lies by the member because she didn't get the job she wanted. Ask me what happened to her? Absolutely nothing! She should have been court-martialed for lying and kicked out with a dishonorable discharge.

Not to brag, but the Canadian civil legal system has a "loser pays" rule. If you bring a bogus law suit and get clocked you are often required to pay the winning side's legal costs. It helps deter people bringing too many claims.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
