A few days ago, I bought some of this ammo: https://www.opticsplanet.com/ammo-i...k-soft-point-brass-cased-rifle-ammu.html

In my 24" 1:12 twist Ruger Hawkeye African, 14 shots averaged 2,962 fps on a Garmin chronograph. SD was 14.9. Spread was 58. Bolt lift was a bit stiffer than normal but not bad. Accuracy at 200 yards is acceptable.

Ammo, Incorporated advertises this load at 2,660 fps, so I checked the Garmin with a proven rifle and load. It was right on the money.

I tried to email Ammo Incorporated for information, but their website is down and it seems that they’ve been acquired by Olin.

Has anyone else seen this?

FWIW, Sierra shows two loads moving a 200-grain bullet at 3,000 fps and three doing 2,950 fps. Nosler shows one load getting to 2,925 fps. Hornady tops out at 2,650 but several Hodgdon loads crowd 2,800 fps with pressures below 53k psi.

Thanks,

Okie John

If they been bought by Olin I would watch them.
I know a few people that have bought Winchester ammo that’s had the wrong bullets in the ammo.
And I know 2 that have Tryed to get in touch with Winchester and has had no luck getting return messages

Winchester (in it's various iterations) has had such a long fall from their peak back in the day. Oliver Winchester is rolling over in his grave. Or haunting the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose.

Thanks to all who responded.

I checked fired cases for potential head separation and didn’t find anything alarming. Sierra has data that moves a 200-grain bullet at 3,000 fps in a 24” barrel here https://sierrabullets.com/load-data/ so the velocity alone doesn’t worry me.

Hard bolt lift, on the other hand, tells me that while this ammo may be safe in other rifles, it’s borderline at best in mine.

The plan now is to disassemble the remaining rounds with a https://www.frankfordarsenal.com/pr...ullers/pile-driver-bullet-puller/1116083.html

The ammo chambered normally. COAL is 3.1115” with the bullet is seated to just barely show the cannelure above the case mouth.

I get the impression that this ammo didn’t sell well and there’s not a lot of info about it online so here are pictures of the boxes for anyone who stumbles onto it in the future.

From what I’ve seen there is a lot of Ammo Inc being clearance priced, I’d assume because of the sale to Olin. I bought a case of the 35 Whelen and a case of the 7RM LR.
Shot some of the 7mm and it was decent enough for 154/case

There's a good video in you tube that shows a person using a CVA single shot in 35 Whelen that gets 3,100 fps with either a 180 or 200 grainer with a dose of H355.
Loaded properly the Whelen is capable of some surprising velocities.

Sir, I will gladly take that 16 gauge off your hands. I was waiting for your Winchesters but I'm a sucker for a 16 ga.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?
