Politics

Like in 1990 when the Mayor(Marion Barry) was caught on camera by the FBI smoking crack with a hooker .... Then got reelected!
Here is a more recent example. The guy got expelled by the City Council and still got re-elected.

Tucson is turning into a Democrat dystopian hell hole. Has been for years.
Lots of violent crime, daily shootings, an exploding homeless population.
Good luck getting the cops to show up. Police force seems to be undermanned.
I can drive around for an hour and not even see a police vehicle.
An ultra liberal mexican mayor, a worthless town council, and a county attorney who is soft on crime, and who's campaign was probably funded by the likes of George Soros.

Funny thing, Saturday i was in the cesspool of Walmart at the self checkout, and i noticed my shirt had ridden up over my handgun exposing it.
The people behind me noticed it as well, and they decided they needed to be somewhere else in a hurry.
I think the two Karen's went over and told the 2 off duty sheriff's working security that there was a guy in self checkout with a gun, because here they come.
By then I had pulled my shirt down, and went about my business.
They have these guys guarding Walmarts all over the city, but good luck getting them to show up to a 911 call.

Walk softly, and carry large caliber concealed weapons.

Doesn't AZ have Open Carry, so why would it be an issue anyway.

Carry a big stick. But never, ever post online suggesting or talking about how you would use the big stick.

If the worst case comes and you use the big stick. A prosecutor will search for your online presence. And use statements against you. If you sound like Dirty Harry you weaken your defense.

I have to remind myself of this fact all the time. It’s easy to get carried away. Not meaning anything by it.

Unless you post it in the jokes thread……really give it some context eh :ROFLMAO: ;)

Walmart changed its policy quite awhile back, when some redneck decided to take his AR-15 for a walk around the inside of a Walmart, freaking everybody out.

Glock 29 10mm.

I'm sure that qualifies you as an expert on the inner city crime levels......

Highest murder rate per capita in the world. Nothing to see here folks......everything is o.k.
While not an expert on inner crime levels, i am pretty solid on threat vulnerability assessments and travel globally doing it for a living. I am not stuck in Arizona.

I find "emergency" to be incredibly exaggerated. I am in and out of DC atleast once a month. Never an issue. Our nation has much more pressing issues.

Concur..

DC is a cesspool... But.. the truth is that its been a cesspool for a very long time...

I travel there frequently for work.. and lived there for a few years in the early 2000's...

The parts that are bad, are very clearly bad.. stay out of them and there’s generally no problem…

Like most major cities.

As I’ve said I’m in and out almost every day. No I don’t like it very much but I don’t like NYC either.

There are better things for Trump to be spending time and money on.

I respectfully disagree

That is great that we have the luxury to avoid south Chicago, certain NY hoods, DC neighborhoods.

What about the citizens trying to live in these areas and face violence every day. But can’t afford to move.

It is absolutely the government’s responsibility. And if local government won’t do it, then it is absolutely the federal government’s responsibility.

that is their number one responsibility and why we pay so much in taxes.

I could argue dozens of other things that local and federal governments shouldn’t be doing. but protecting citizens that can’t afford private security, security alarms, or to move is not one of them.

BS. That is the attitude that slowly evolves into mores normalizing crime/lawless behavior.

I think the question is not whether DC has too much crime. We can all agree on that, I suspect. Everyone deserves to live in a safe environment, without fear of being murdered.

The question is whether truth and facts matter. For example, some have said that DC has the worst murder rate of any city in the world. For example, this chart is about as misleading as it comes:

1755086756023.jpeg

The Council on Criminal Justice reports that 49 cities in the world with a population of over 250,000 people had homicide rates higher than 39.1 (per 100k) in 2023, compared to about 26.5 in Washington DC (2024 number; 2023 is a bit higher). Six US cities also had higher murder rates than Washington according to the same report: Memphis, New Orleans, St. Louis, Baltimore, Cleveland and Detroit. Memphis was over 40 per 100,000 people.

Washington clearly is not the worst city in the world, not is it even the worst city in the US.

So who picked the cities on this chart, and for what purpose? Or does it even matter? I think it should; you may disagree.

This is where we disagree. I don’t think handling local crime is appropriate for the federal government. Fundamentally I believe they should deal with foreign policy, national defense, interstate commerce, and trade. Local issues should be handled by local governments and if the citizens of that locality choose to elect leaders that tolerate crime then they have to live with the consequences.

Admittedly this gets complicated with DC because of the federal overlay of its governance.

Good point. Stats and Polls are usually manipulated to benefit the person paying for the poll.

But the fact that 5 other US cities are worse is not an argument on why no one should act.

The impetus was the DOGE employee “Bigballs” getting his ass handed to him while trying to stop a car jacking.
