And it only took 2 years. Picked up my new Heym 89B 500 NE double today. I'll try to get some better pictures tomorrow.

Most of the inventory Chris had on hand was to fill orders; he did have a couple 416 Rigbys - so I talked myself into one.

Did Chris have any Martinis in 500 or 505 to inspect? If I don’t warm to the 88b’s 450/400 or 470, I see one of Heym’s bolt guns in my future.

Gorgeous 500 by the way. Such lovely wood and ideal scroll work. Well chosen.

Hey, where you at in East Texas? I might need to stop by and take a gander at those.

I just need to order another Heym! They still fit what I like, almost assured the next one will be a
450 3.25 or a 450 #2. Looking at an Evens #2 now!

Heym make good quality firearms, I am however surprised with the stock on the .416......perhaps it is just me...

Congratualtions @Franco.

I absolutely love the Heym Express Magnum Bolt Action Rifle and have often said how it's one of the very best in the world. Made completely in house with each magazine and barrel profile tailored specifically to the cartridge being used. Not to mention the level of customization that's available from them if you wished.

And of course the DR...what can I say that hasn't already been said. Well done and congratulations again.

I don't recall 500 or 505, I think he said he had a 404.

Well done Franco! You will bond well with that 500.
Thanks Kevin,

I haven't shot it yet, but it comes up perfectly and feels great. I've got some ammo, Hornady DGX, Barnes Vor-TX, and Federal Woodleigh Hydro solids. I'm going to talk to John at Safari Arms about ammo.

The subject of shotgun barrels came up on another thread. Chris has a set of 20 gauge barrels; they will not fit my 500 frame, but they would fit a frame like my 450/400.

The cost, 8K, plus time and money to ship a rifle to Germany, have the barrels fitted and returned - for what - another SxS shotgun? It would give the option of something for birds while in Africa, but it's more stuff to pack, more ammo to squeeze in, and I've yet to be in a camp without some kind of shotgun.

Made more sense to get the 416. I didn't say good sense - I said more sense.

Thank you,

I'm looking forward to shooting both. The 500 is definitely heavier than the 450/400 - but not uncomfortable.

If the 416 shoots anything like the 375 - it will be a great rifle. Hopefully the 416 won't kick as hard as the 458 Lott.

@Franco The 89B double was certainly worth the wait!

I must say that your Martini Express makes me want to rob my retirement account to fulfill my gun lust! Must resist temptation... I handled a Martini Express in .458 Lott at the DSC 2024 Convention. It was perfection. I tried but couldn't bind the bolt while working it hard at nearly a 45-degree angle. The muzzle was pointed upward for safety of course. It was on sale as a show special and tempted me plenty. It if have been chambered in .416 Rigby, a very functional cartridge, I would have or at least should have bought it.

The Martini Express in .416 Rigby is what @rookhawk advises as a much better use of hard earned and for most of us, long saved dollars instead of an entry level double rifle. I think the cost is approximately $15,000 for which one may find a used Heym 88B. If a 88B double isn’t available, buy a Martini Express and those dreams of a double rifle will be satisfied by the universal functionality, dependability, and beauty of a grand magazine rifle!
