Refinishing a CZ 550

Great info! When you say to leave it unrubbed, do you mean not rubbing the oil off on the last two coats?
@Yaryan
Two import areas often overlooked when refinishing a stock are the barrel channel and behind the recoil pad if you remove it.

Ok, I think I'm getting a good idea on how to proceed. Last question: Do I need to oil the whole stock, inside too?
@Yaryan
YES. Dismantle the rifle and do EVERYTHING.
DON'T scrape the barrel channel just give it a good clean then finish it. If'n y'all get carried away you will probably upset the accuracy and then have to glass bed the action.

If you want to utilize Tung Oil do so, I have had great results with it, but you have to do it in a specific way. Tung oil can go through a polymerization when heat is introduced to it. So me personally, when I use Tung Oil on a stock I use a heating lamp and leave it in for 12-24 hours between coats, at 120-140°F. I built my out of a little stainless steel fridge from a train, but there are many ways to make it work.
Utilize any finish you like, but if you want to use Tung Oil, I recommend the above to get that truly spectacular finish.

I did mine with boiled linseed oil. I used citri strip, sanded a lot and hand rubbed in like 15 ish coats over 2 weeks. Came out pretty good. At least good enough for who it's for.

That looks amazing! Did you do a wax coat too or is it ok to just do the oil?

Thank you, just the oil. Use it sparingly. A few drops and rub the shit out of it. Repeat when it's totally dry.

I wet the stock and used super fine sandpaper to sand down the grain several times before applying any oil. I've done several stocks this way. They always come out nice.

The CZ 550s usually have pretty nice wood under that terrible czeckoslvakian varnish.

Cheers
