@Bob Nelson 35Whelen - Bob I think I asked you this before but “how” can you have a rifle sighted in 2” High at 100 yrds and it’s “still” 2” high at 200 yrds?? My .22-250 with 50 gr bullet @4000 fps still drops at least One inch between 100 and 200 yrds - my scope cross hairs intersect 1.5” above the bore. Are you shooting “Aluminum bullets”?

No I'm shooting 100gn TTSX at 3,660fps and 115gn combined technology Silver tips and 117 gn SST @ 3,300+ fps.
The TTSX zero again at 300 the others at 275 yds
My scope centre is 1.8" above the centre of the bore.

Bobs .25 does 4300fps, It’s a very flat shooter.

The one the mate built using my reamer gives over 3,900fps with 75gn VMAX and over 3,800 with an 80gn outer edge.

You can shoot out to 400 with very little adjustment for elevation. When you don’t have time for range finders or dialing turrets, this kind of trajectory is very helpful.

This is where the 25-06 and 257 Weatherby really shine. This is how we hunted before laser range finders, and it still works better than most folks imagine nowadays.

That's what I like about my 25.
Dead on hold from zero to 300 will give a centre mass hit.
Backline hold depending on the sizeof the game will give a 400 yard plus range as at that range the drop is only 8-13" depending on projectiles. Using the Barnes TTSX in fallow a backline hold will extend the range to 450yds.
Even tho my rifle is more than capable at those ranges I try and limit my shots to 200 yds but it's nice to know it is fine out to much further if'n I ever need it.
It's no use having all that speed if'n it ain't accurate tho. Fortunately it groups less than an inch at 200 usually around 0.8" so the only limiting factor is the shooter.

I have a tricked out Ruger No.1 in 25-‘06. I have come to prefer 115 gr bullets with H4350 and get very good accuracy through a 25” Brux barrel with 9-1/2” twist. This is used for hunting Coues whitetail deer primarily. But is a good coyote rifle with 100 grain varmint bullets.
For elk I think heavier bullets in 7mm or .308” are better.

I think H4350 would be a bit fast for the 115s.
H4831 would give better velocity.
I switched to Hogdon superformance in my 25.
You can use the same load data as H4381 but don't exceed the max load. Eg if you can use 58gn of 4831 as a max you can use 58gn of superformance as your max load.
I found superformance gives me higher velocity at similar or lower pressure and improve accuracy.

A good load for the 25-06 with 100gn bullets is 54gn of H4350 with a 100gn TTSX. This will give you over 3,400 fps in your long barrel. This is a max load so work up to it. This load has been tested with other 100grainers as well and has given brilliant accuracy in a couple of 25-06 rifles as well with groups of 0.5-0.75" at 100 yards.
The 25-06 is a brilliant flat shooting cartridge that more people need to get acquainted with they will be surprised at what it will do.

Still waiting on my fast twist 25. Planning on trying the 128 gr ELDX as soon as I can get some. May have to buy the 25 creedmore and pull the bullets to start.
Also got some 100 gr Siroccos for the 10 twist. 3300 with 50.5 gr of IMR 4350
The standbuy is the 120gr Speer at 3000 FPS with IMR 7828

What make of rifle would the 25-06 gurus here recommend as the most accurate current-production rifle for use in the field? Not looking for a 12lb heavy barreled, thick-stocked bench rifle, but suitable one for all-day carry that shoots sub-MOA with factory ammo.

My brother killed two Zebra in Namibia with 115gr Nosler partition handloads. Maybe 100 yd shots.One went a 100 yds the other about 60! There tough animals!!!

I think the 25-06 is almost everything the 257 Weatherby is without the boom and bother (hand loaded anyway), and no one doubts the Weatherby for Africa.

A handloaded 25-06 is really fast. I had two different rifles,Remington and a Steyr, that would push 100 grain bullets over 3400 fps with half moa accuracy.

Lots of rifles are fast, others are very accurate.

With handloads, you can have both in a good 25-06.
