Researching dik dik hunts…

Could be an option but only in a single shot or bolt gun for Africa legalities.
Perfect excuse to build a light Ruger #1 in 300 Blackout. ;)

That's what friends are for.

Yes, another good option would be a T/C carbine. You could thread for a can and have a quiet little T10 rifle. I might have to consider that in 22 Hornet or 223.

I have several T/C frames, including a flat sider from the old T/C Custom Shop aka Fox Ridge Outfitters. I know dozens of places to get a custom T/C barrel.

With a light scope, you'd be under 5 pounds.

One issue is that no one has very many permits for them...usually 2 is what I have heard. I'm looking out a few years but that is a factor to keep in mind as there are more hunters who want them than permits available. I am going to build this whole trip around the main goal of Dik Dik. I would happily take gemsbok from their native territories along with Hartmann's zebra and springbok but the main quarry will be Dik Dik.
You must hunt a stallion Hartmanns zebra! Such a great hunt.

Oh yes, the Hartmann's are a beautiful zebra...one of my favorites. It would be interesting to have the different examples tanned to show the differences in patterns. Plus, zebra steaks are great eating.

I would love to do a dik-dik hunt but my problem is not much else in Namibia interests me except an eland. I have pretty much everything else as far as plains goes. It would be fun to hunt the one of the worlds largest antelope along with one of the smallest on the same hunt.
I actually had a hunt like that set up but Covid derailed it and I lost the outfitters contact. Can’t even remember their name.

I don’t believe they are that difficult to reserve. Just needs done at booking. Eland really needs be on your list for Namibia as well. It’s one of best eland destinations to me.

I had a hunt day in Zim turn out like that randomly...the biggest and the smallest...same day. Both score VERY high.

Eland tracking with the Bushmen would be a fantastic hunt.

I think they fight often as well. There are some videos online of them doing so.

My ram wasn’t super old I don’t think? His bases were hard and had more than 5 significant splits in one ear. A few splits in the other ear as well. Some scars on his face to boot. He was at least nice and mature I believe.

Awesome animals with their little hooves and noses...and the coolest haircut around.

My next trip will also be focused on good dik dik for me, as well as an old eland tracking hunt for my son. I am really hopping to have something booked by this winter. Having something on the books makes it easier to get up in the morning!

Get your questions in here and let's get yours sorted out too. Your trip is before mine.

I think they have a better stylist than Kim Jong Un of North Korea.

This was in the Erongo area of Namibia this year in mid April, record rainfall had the grass very tall and hard to get a shot. Same gun I used on the mountain Zebra. 375 just made a hole straight through with very little damage. Hunted with Imenhof.

.223 pipe for the R8, then use it for the rest of your life as a >100 yards trainer for all your other R8 calibers

Did you see any Damara Dik Dik in the Erongo?

I did not see a Damara although they are found in that area, ironically the area they are not found is Damaraland.
