Gday
This may not be of concern to the more experienced people in regards to attachment of pictures or maybe if they use a computer
But from this muppets position I found it a little frustrating as sometimes it would sometimes not

Took me a little while to understand how this forum works in more ways than one lol

My biggest issue I had was the attachment of pictures like this below
708B5C57-458C-49C8-923F-FEA9E90199DF.png

The one on the left just won’t load to allow me to insert like the one on the right

The one on the left is a photo from my album taken by this iPhone 11pro & unless I screen shot that picture like this I can’t get it to attach (just a random picture I took recently)1153355D-69E1-42D6-A32C-6A843DBBC4AA.jpeg
& here’s the outcome on that
As unscreenshot it won’t load where same picture just screenshot & cropped a touch allows me to insert the picture in either thumbnail or full image

Now i understand I’m not smart on the technical stuff so apologies in advance as most likely a very easy way to attach which I’d love to hear on how

For now I just screenshot & crop then I’m good to go

Hope it helps someone if they are having trouble like I was or a easier way please post how

Cheers

There are occasions when the photo format used causes some issues.
Also, the SIZE of the file you are trying to use can cause issues.

Your issue is likely the size of the offending photo.

SAVE as a smaller version and see how that goes.

Drag and drop the picture/photo into the post is the easiest way.

Thanks for the reply
I’ll get my son to help me understand the drag & drop as I’ve got no idea what that means or is

Nothing to do with you it’s just me as this stuff is way over my head but I am getting better as some 6 ish years ago was my first encounter with a smart phone & only had a mobile a few years prior to that so yes I’m old school of rather do it personally face to face or over those old landline phones that seem to be a rarity these days but today is what it is & it’s move with the times or be left behind for which I’ll most likely ask a lot more dumb questions but it’s how I learn so apologies in advance

Thanks once again
Cheers

I've sent this same Direct message to a couple other folks. When I first joined, I didn't have a clue how to post photos.

Working from a computer is much easier to post photos. I will write from my phone, but usually only post photos from my computer.

If you write a paragraph or two and then want to insert a photo, hit the "Enter" key a couple times to move the cursor down a line or two from the last bit of text you wrote. Then there are a couple ways to insert a photo.

One way is to have the photo open, either on another screen if you have two screens or simply open the photo where it is now on top of the AH page where you are writing. With the photo open, move the cursor anywhere over the photo and right click on your mouse or keypad. A popup menu will appear and you can click on "Copy". You can then close the photo or minimize it to get it out of the way. Move the cursor back to the body of the text where you were typing. The cursor should be a line or two below that last bit of text. Right click on the mouse or keypad and a menu appears. Select "Paste" and the photo should appear in the report. Once it shows up, it might be sort of faded looking, so hit the "Enter" key and the photo will be 100%. Hit the "Enter" key a couple more times to space a few lines and you can either start typing more report or go get another photo.

Another way to do this exact method as listed above, is to open a photo, click on it and then with two fingers hit the "Ctrl" key and the "C" key at the same time. "Ctrl C" is copy. Move the cursor to where you want the photo, left button click there, then do a "Ctrl V" which is the shortcut for Paste. The faded photo will appear, then hit the "Enter" key and the photo will be 100%.

One other method is to "Drag and Drop" a photo. This works well if you have two screens or can divide one screen with the report (AH page) on one side and your photo file on the other side.

Move the cursor down a line or two from your last bit of typing. This is where the photo will end up.

Now move the cursor with the mouse to a photo, left button click on it, but hold the left button down continuously. Drag the photo to the report and when to cursor and miniature photo (thumbnail) are in the whitespace where you want the photo, release the left mouse button and the photo will "drop" into the report.

The "Attach Files" button at the bottom left of where you write a post from on AH is another way to attach photos. Click on the button and "File Explorer" opens. You will need to navigate to where your photos are located, double click on them and they will load to the report. I don't use this method too often. I think the photos load as "thumbnails" and then you click on a button that says "Full size".

Lastly, if you have a photo in a format that AH won't load, you can always use a "snipping tool" to copy the photo and past it into the report. I use this if I see a photo online somewhere. Open the snipping tool, outline the part of the photo you want to snip, hit copy and then move the cursor back to your report and paste it.

Hope this helps.

How fast is your internet? I unfortunately have to screenshot and crop nearly every photo I upload to reduce the file size. My internet is too slow to upload them otherwise. I often have to wait until I go work to see photos in reports because they won’t load.

That gives me a little more confidence thankyou

I’ve got no computer myself & nearly all my stuff is done via my phone although we recently run into issues on applying for my department of defense export/import certificate for my 500 Jeffery to leave Australia & my E VISA for Mozambique as my phone wouldn’t do that & my son handled all that for me on his computer & im sure he wouldn’t want me on his computer as I’ll mess it up for sure lol

I’ll most likely stick to my phone & will most likely by another one soon , as I’m a bugger for taking photos & got no idea on how to save them as soon as storage is full I buy a new phone but my son did download some on some device for safe keeping to save me deleting others on this phone as I was doing to that stage & didn’t purchase a new one this time

Hopefully makes sense how backwards I am & challenged on that front
But thankyou for taking the time I appreciate it

Cheers

Thanks for the reply
My internet speed in my house is pretty good & about 1/2 my farm it’s the same , some parts of the farm are real slow to not possible overall is pretty good as long as I’m aware of my position on the property

Cheers

If you are on your phone it is fairly easy.

In either the reply to box where it says Write Your Reply or in a thread where you are first posting just click on the Attach Files down on the bottom of the box.

Then select select where your pictures are stored, mine are in the Gallery. I click on Gallery and then select the pictures that I want to post. Once that is done click on Done and wait for them to upload.

In the end just click on Post Thread and you are done.

well I,ll be ,.thanks 375fox. im on star link remote ,but this Copied asap no problem

Thanks
I got that part correct eventually where it seemed to be a issue was my image looks like it was 2 big & unable to upload the picture as soon as I for a better word cropped it
All went well & it would be accepted & I could attach

My son said if I looked deeper into the photo itself I could see the size of it

Yes dads not real bright on this stuff lol

On this iPhone 11
In the gallery & on a picture or video you can for his words “ swipe the bottom of the screen up “& you can see the details of how big the image is ( i don’t know the technical term)

Don’t know if that information is on all iPhones or other brands as i didn’t ask him that

Cheers

Personally, I wish that "Thumbnail" option would just disappear! I have sometimes waited five minutes for a poster's tray of thumbnails to upload. I usually just say to hell with it, give up, and skip over viewing the images.

Using the "attach" option works best in my opinion. One just needs to know where his image files are stored. And when the little thumbnail shows up in the post as downloaded, hit insert FULL IMAGE not "thumbnail."

Another useful tip is to view your stuff before posting. In the upper right hand of editing window there's a little box with image of text page and magnifying glass. Click on that and you can see exactly what the post will look like. Read through it for errors. Unfortunately, editing cannot be done in this mode. Need to click on the box again to return to editing mode. This is very useful as the forum program only allows for a few minutes of editing after something is posted. Then the post is locked. Using the review function + moving back to editing window allows one to write, review, and rewrite a post for as long as desired/needed before posting.

If the thumbnails are taking a long time to load for you so will full size pictures.

I hate it when oversize pictures take a couple of minutes to load and I just go on to read other post in the thread and then come back to the pictures.

I'm on a couple of forums where their software automatically resizes any and all pictures to enhance the viewing experience with making them load quicker.

Actually, the thumbnail gallery loads MUCH slower than images inserted "full size" into text. Doesn't make sense but there it is.

One should be careful when taking pictures, especially with cameras, to set the photo size to something that is manageable. For example, my Canon digital camera defaults to images that are 26" wide. Good grief! Yeah, the quality is great but what can you do with it but look at it on a computer screen? The image files are huge. Even a simple graphics program will have an option to "resample" those large images to something that requires a fraction of the data storage.

A file size is a file size weather it is a thumbnail or a full size picture, they are the same.

Holy "acoustic coupler modem" Batman!!! That is a real slow connection if it takes you minutes.

99% of the time I have no problems, but then there are the instances where the pictures are way oversized and it will take a while. While I don't have the slowest internet connection I am far from the fastest. A lot depends on where you live and what you qualify for.

Much like back in the old AOL days when people just sat their and watched a large file load up onto their computer. I'd just tell them to go do something else on the computer while leaving the page that was loading alone, then come back to it.

Yeah, I am spoiled. 2 gig connection at home and 1 gig at overseas vacation homes.

One other thing that a lot of people don't realize is that no matter what your speed is the download time will also depend on the speed of the server where you are signed into.

So if you have 2 gig at home but Africa Hunting only is running at 1.5K then the fastest you can download/upload is 1.5K. Speed will also depend on how many are signed in and trying to download the same picture, remember when there was loading problems on the site here?

I just used those numbers as a reference, I have no idea of how fast of a server they have here on the forum.
