I've visited @Tokoloshe Safaris camp. I would say their fly camp with on-suite shower and toilet is the nicest I've seen in Zimbabwe. A+++ accommodation and hospitality.

Their elephant are a small bodied race with smaller ivory, but they are literally 1/3rd the price of alternatives.

If somebody wants to kill an elephant but their budget is roughly what you'd spend on an RSA high-fence plains game safari, you ought to hunt with @Tokoloshe Safaris

If you want an $80,000-type elephant hunt for 60lb-80lb ivory, this is not the place for you and frankly, what did you expect for $15k-$20k? Set reasonable expectations and they will definitely exceed how far your dollars can go anywhere else.

@Rare Breed - appreciate info received so far and I’m learning more each day - started from scratch just last week and was referred by a friend to: SANGO WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY in Zimbabwe. If I’m getting this info all correct, they just opened up 4 quota for Non exportable bull elephant up to 30 lbs. trophy fee $5000. Each. The money is suppose to go towards Anti Poaching efforts. Camps are luxury and why the daily fee is $2000 per day and $450 for Observer. Two camps in their hunt area: Inqwe Lodge & Dadiso Camp. The hunt area appears about a 5 hour drive South from Harare. PH is Mark Jansen 593. The camp seems to cater to both hunting and photo safaris and I believe is fairly new - maybe 2-3 years old? The accommodations appeal to my Wife, the Hunting and low price for 30 lb bull appeals to Me. If anyone has specific knowledge - appreciate any details you can share… thank you

So for a 10 day hunt $25,000 without observer fee. The comfort of your wife is huge in my opinion as it would be with my wife! If you went on a less expensive hunt for similar tusks you could have a great experience at $17-$18,000 but your wife in my opinion would not enjoy it at all. My recommendation is spend the extra money with your partner in life and ensure she also has a great time!!!!!

These tusks are still in the skull in the ground but will go around [emoji6]lb .

@Russ16 - if the Tusks “look Great” does it matter what they weigh? I know trophy fees can be based on tusk weight so obviously it matters from that standpoint - but as a Hunter, if I liked to “look” of those tusks, and it was an old mature Bull, AND the experience of the Elephant Hunt….tusk weight would really not matter. Comparing it to something I have much more experience with - what my Deer rack “scores” is less important to me then how it looks, if it’s a mature Big bodied buck, and taken during a challenging hunt with a fine shot.

@Rare Breed - AGREE, I want this hunt to be even more enjoyable for my Wife then Me - I’ll love the hunt regardless and don’t mind spending extra for some “Luxury” for her. What I’m still trying to decide: Is this the “right place & PH?” Are there other outfits that offer the same or better AND has anyone on AH hunted with such a n outfit & PH? One of the other benefits of the place in Zim I’m looking at is I can tailor this hunt anyway I want - 7 Days - 8 Days - 10 days….will always be $2000-per-day ..and I don’t need to shoot Anything if I choose Not to - No pressure to take an animal, don’t need to Hunt everyday if we decide we want to sight see etc.. It seems more like a Photo & Sight Seeing Safari with the “Option” to shoot an Elephant if I want to….just pay the extra $5000 Trophy Fee if I do.(Unless I have misinterpreted some information? I am still getting clarification on details and asking questions to insure No misunderstanding).

Just something to keep in mind. You really need to see a lot of photos of different angles on elephant trophy photos to judge. You can make a small tusk elephant look big.

@Russ16 - good point and I guess I do something similar with Deer racks —- when someone says they saw a buck and guesses a “score”—that gives me a rough “reference point” as to how big that rack will look….but I still take a buck based on How-it-looks-to-Me, also the Buck’s age & body size.

@Philip Glass I have spoken to Two PHs so far and expressed my concern but both reassured me the .375 H&H was fine (apparently used more often then I thought) as long as my shot placement is good….lots more research to do and appreciate the helpful posts received so far.

You are correct, I have only 1 safari and 1 elephant (tuskless) under my belt.

However another hunter in camp was after a bull and using a .375H&H; he got his bull alright but be ready for follow up shots and bring the BEST solids you can find because between the hunter and the PH apprentice that was with the PH I think that bull ended up taking FIVE - .375H&H solids and a couple of .458's.

Seeing the different solids coming out during the butchering process was an eye opener....

@deewayne2003 - yes that is a concern and would be with whatever caliber I choose ——- additional shots put into my Elephant if I fail to drop it quickly. I could accept the PH shooting AFTER Me - as long as my bullets struck the Vitals and would’ve killed the elephant - that scenario would Not detract from my joy of the Trophy…..BUT “if” I blow the shot and miss vital areas and learn that my PH actually killed the Elephant - I will be deeply disappointed in ME….knowing I only have myself to blame. I will likely hunt with my .375 H&H a lot before the safari and even during rifle deer season - take a few deer with it and become as comfortable with it as possible. It’s easy to shoot accurately at targets and off sticks & bench during regular practice sessions (and I killed a Griz with that rifle in Alaska),, but REAL Elephant hunting can be different and I want to be as prepared as possible.

Just something to keep in mind. You really need to see a lot of photos of different angles on elephant trophy photos to judge. You can make a small tusk elephant look big.

Totally understand and agree. But if I know the weight of tusks in various pictures I can start to understand the ranges. If I just see pictures with no weight I’m learning nothing.

The pictures you are seeing from Tokoloshe are between 20-25 pounds based on my experience. They only claim 15-25 pounds. I am just going by their latest pictures
