It’s funny seeing the environmentalists/organic only folks not understand what happens when you work to make grain.

They also don’t understand what would happen to the livestock prices and grocery store meat prices, if we stopped using conventional ag practices without a major breakthrough. It’s basically talking to the crowd that thinks all food is made at Walmart or Costco.

Some years ago was part the defense team that defended family owned CAFOs against environmental claims brought by a PE backed law firm. The idea they would try to paint of very small hog farms, like you see with Amish or something from the turn of the 20th century, is so detached from reality it borders on insane. You want $20 dollar a pound bacon and 200 dollar hams? If not, you need to let people raise a lot of hogs in one place.

Europe and other countries are getting a taste of something that is long overdue

If 77mill believe the problems america is in is because of an “ overdue” gosh they are brainwashed. The structual corporate greed that drains your society and pockets, the fentanyl problems, the homelessness problems, the dept problems many americans have, high rate of high school drop-outs, obesity, poor foods available , many with untreated medical issues beause they can’t afford to go to the doctor etc etc. A Youtuber said it right. “The american dream is not to live in america”. But if you insist all this because of an “overdue” with europe I will hope for you guys Trump will make it better for the average american. I hope that Trump will not end up what King Herods was for Israel( you are educated you know the story).

People trust science, you included. You enjoy using rifle propellants with various burning rates. You appreciate the consistency from batch to batch. You appreciate the shelf-life and the how safe it is to use, while still being incredibly effective when ignited in just the right way. All of this comes to you from science. Hodgdon H4350, one of the best and most useful propellants around, is Australian AR2209. I worked on the project that made this happen, early in my career.

People trust science. Think of all the other examples of how you trust science. The metallurgy in your barrels and actions, the coatings on your riflescope lenses, the laser rangefinders and thermal sensors you might be using. The GPS that guides the drone you use to find game. The fact that you never got polio and can walk when you go hunting. The masks you insist your surgeons use when operating on you. The mask you wear to avoid breathing in asbestos fibres. Go on, take it off if you don't trust science.

People trust science. They just don't realise all the ways. Then they get silly and decide not to trust science when they don't like what it reports, to their own detriment.

There is a great deal of difference between trusting science, and trusting the scientific community. The former is simply fact, the physical laws of the universe, some known, some yet to be discovered. The latter are the human beings investigating those laws, who in large part have deviated from the discipline of their profession in the investigation of climate change, the topic that got this discussion started.

I for one, do not trust the scientific community as regards the investigation between the link of human activity and climate change. In my opinion they have largely compromised their scientific integrity in this area.

Most of the nitrogen a soybean puts into the ground is later used to make the seed, meaning most of the nitrogen is harvested with the grain.
While true crop rotation helps, it does little to reduce the need of nitrogen application in conventional tillage farming.
It’s possible, with the addition of cover crops, no till practice, and sometimes inter-seeding, to really reduce or eliminate the need to apply fertilizer.
We are trying to do this but I’m not sold on it yet. It does go against the way the land was farmed for the last century.

I totally agree, I did not mean to imply that you could eliminate nitrogen application with rotation but it does help. With care you may get a ten percent or so reduction in the application for your corn crop. Not insignificant, but certainly not elimination.

Rotation also reduces chemical costs as you break the life cycle of crop specific pestilence.

It's incredibly amusing to be lectured on politics by a people whose own politics led to the deaths of more than 50 million people in the space of ~30 years.

I think he’s just proving he can flip the switch any time he likes… another means for forcing Zelenskkys hand… if Ukraine doesn’t capitulate quickly he’ll flip the switch back the other direction fairly soon..

It’s barbaric..
