2024 Deer Season

Really cool buck. I once spotted one similar and dubbed him the "Picket Fence" for the long, wide beams. Never was able to see him again. Yours is the closest I've ever seen to my white whale.
Good God!!! Congratulations!!!

@buck wild , that is a fine and unique buck! Is that antler configuration common in your area?
Thanks. It's not uncommon to have wide spread bucks in our area, but they usually lack mass and tine length. We killed two other bucks this year that were 23"+ wide. This one was 24.5" outside.

There is nothing like hunting one particular, mature buck. Congratulations on finally getting close enough for the shot. That buck looks ancient; what age did his tooth wear indicate?

We know he was at least 7 years old. The teeth wear patterns in our area always seem to show bucks at least a year younger than known age, and this buck's teeth showed 7 years for sure.

That’s fantastic. A buck of that age is typically a very sly customer. He’s a helluva buck.

If you like age……Here’s a buck we figured was 8+ yrs old. I never saw him until late in the year this year, and not sure which buck he was from the past. He would not socialize with any other deer, including does. I had to make a 300 yd shot on him.

That is incredible ! What a crazy set of antlers! You are lucky to be able to hunt a place where a buck can make it to such a ripe old age. I've been blessed to hunt and guide on a big place in the brush country. Your description of how that old buck behaved instantly reminded me of this particular buck from 2006.

You could tell it was ancient when it walked out. It shied away from every other deer, including does (just like your buck). I was guiding one of our foremen and he made a good shot. This old buck was missing several lower molars and the remaining teeth were at the gumline. He was in poor condition and likely would not have survived the winter. We could only guess he was 10 years, maybe more.

Every year, they shoot something super old, it's quite a place, really.

I was very blessed this season.
Beautiful buck with a beautiful rifle.
Very special to me because the generous permission to hunt that ground comes from the generous previous owner of the rifle.

Good hunts made better by great people!

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
