3 gun rolling gun case

Just got my Kalispel Metal Products
3 gun rolling case and it looks to be everything I’ve been looking for in a gun case. Headed to S.A. this fall for my first ever African Safari and decided that two rifles just wouldn’t be enough! Hope this post helps some of you that have been looking for an oversized case. Made in Washington State.

That's a very nice sturdy looking case! Be careful when you start loading it, it can get real heavy real quick resulting in extra overweight charges.

I agree with you, the wheels look like they could take a beating because they are not recessed at all. Especially considering the weight of the case, three rifles and what ever else is loaded in there. Baggage handlers can be tough of stuff like that.

EDIT - @rookhawk arranged to have a group buy done by AH members from Americase and the wheels on those will be partially recessed. Then there are bumpers on the other end to make it sit level while laying flat.

Suggestions:

(1) buy some silicone corner protectors (available at Amazon) to stick onto the corners.

(2) paste a card your name and mobile telephone number on the outside of the case.

Regarding (2), I had a problem this year between check-in and loading at Heathrow with my gun case (I had put my bottles of Camp coffee in the gun case, and gun cases are not supposed to include liquids, apparently) and the airline staff had difficulty in contacting me.

I used a borrowed Kalispel/Cabelas 2-gun case for my first two trips to Africa. Very nice but bulky. No wheels. I bought a one-gun Pelican Vault for my last trip. Only took my Springfield. It worked out fine. With both QD scopes removed, I can stuff two guns in it this trip. Heavy but more manageable than the Kalispel case. I seem to recall some airlines will only allow two guns. Anyone else run into that?

I don’t believe so with factory foam. Well, not with substantial soft cases. I have a very similar case made by KK air international. I do like it because it has recessed handles etc.

You will not be able to place three long guns in this case inside of soft cases. In a gun sock yes, but not in your typical soft cases without removing the factory foam insulation.

Well, It’s been almost a year since I posted pics ect. of my 3-gun Kalispel case I purchased for my first African safari. I thought I would follow up with some pics and comments now that it has traveled to the dark continent twice. My safari last Oct/Nov with Ernest Dyason couldn’t have gone any better! My flight home on Delta was fine other than my gun case didn’t make the flight. (I suspected that it didn’t because I put an Apple AirTag in my gun case and the last location showed that it was still in Atlanta.) I checked with the lost baggage department and they said it was on the next flight. After waiting 2.5 hours in the SeaTac parking lot I went back in to check on my case. The attendant told me she would have it rushed to the oversize baggage department. Upon receiving my case from the Delta baggage department this is what I received.

The protrusion on the far left is from the muzzle of my carbon barreled Weatherby Carbon Ti. The circular “dent” in the middle is obviously from the gun case being rammed against a piece of pipe that Delta probably had laying on the tarmac somewhere. The protrusion on the right is from the regulating tab (which is soldered in place between the barrels of my double rifle) being slammed into the end of my case. I raised hell with Delta and they got the Delta manager to come and tell me that “we don’t cover dents” ! I told him I wanted his business card and he said he didn’t have one on him. I said, fine, I’ll just take a photo of your employee ID tag on your neck. That’s when he wheeled around and covered it up. This pic is all I have of “Barry” from Delta Airlines at SeaTac. I am writing all of this because some of you wanted my opinion on this case after I used it a bit. I believe the case did its job well and I doubt that a polymer case would have contained the rifle barrels as well as this aluminum one did. Some of you were concerned that the protruding wheels would be fragile. I did not find this to be an issue after two safaris. However, On my recent safari to TZ, Qatar airways did find a way to grind a flat spot on one of the wheels so now it sounds like a boxcar rolling down a dilapidated track when pulling it through the airport. I added a picture of “Barry” from Delta at SeaTac just to give him some Exposure.

Never trust a man in a turtleneck and a red blazer. Especially true when they take the additional step of adding a pocket square. Was there any damage to the guns?

None that I could detect and, remarkably, after checking all of them at the range, all of them maintained their”zero”.

I will take three guns again and I plan on taking three next year when I return to SA with Spear Safari’s for plains game and Buff. I will then travel to Zim for Lion and cull Elephant. I will use my carbon 300wby for plains game, my 378 Wby for Buff and Lion, and my Heym 500 Nitro for Elephant(that is, if Heym gets it done in time!) I may drill the rivits out of the spring loaded handle on my gun case and turn it upside down and remount it. It closes on the back side of my hand when pulling it through the airport. It locks half open one way and closes tight to the case the other.(smashing my hand) I think they mistakenly put it together wrong when they built it. Not a difficult thing to fix.

I did use all three guns and it was nice to have all three of them. The only thing I would do differently is that now I pack the rifles so that the but pad of the rifles is towards the pull handle(front of case). I also riveted rubber pads to the handle end of the gun case so that I doesn’t slide very easy if it falls off of a baggage cart etc..

(1) Barry looks to be a (very obvious) homosexual.

(2) If you ask nicely, Kalispel may be able to repair your case. Otherwise, I am told, repairing dented aluminium is quite easy: it apparently just requires heating and it will pop back into place. (I 'know' this from an insurance assessor who told me that it is how you repair an Aston Martin's bodywork.)

In any case, good luck. It is teeth-grindingly infuriating that these gorillas have smashed up your case, but - thank God - at least the rifles are ok.
