I'm in the US so 9.3x62 rifles are a little more scarce.
I have a Tikka T3 in .30-06 that has been replaced by a CZ600 LUX in .30-06

From my internet research you can just change the barrel within cartridge sizes on the Tikkas to recaliber it.

Am I right or wrong, and is this something any gunsmith can do or is there a suggestion for a good US gunsmith?

They make 'em already, but not imported to the US, AFAIK.

JES teboring can convert a 30/06 to 35 Whalen or 9.3x62. He did a 30/30 to 38/55 for me.

@crackerman
Easy job to rebarrel but why not just but a tikka in 9.3x62.

If you do, I'd think about adding at least a front sight. I just bought an XS ghost ring rear sight for my 9.3x62, mounts on a Weaver base. If they mount a front sight for you, I'd have them mount just far enough back that you could still thread the barrel if you wanted. Probably couldn't use the irons with a can, but you'd still have the option of using your new 9.3 if your glass failed. Just take off the can.

I have a 2-10x40 for my 9.3, but you can be sure the ghost ring will get dialed in and then be in my kit when I leave for RSA in a few months.

Once you shoot the XS I would appreciate your thoughts.
I have considered something like this for a Marlin 336.

I had an XS on my 45-70 1895 GBL. It worked great, but where I deer hunt, and well into my 50s now, the low light where i take most of my deer just didn't work out very well with an aperture. This is 5 shots from my 45-70 with the Ghost Rings from 6 or 7 years ago.

Nice shooting.
Would you consider the rear sight that comes on something like a Marlin to be better in low light condition?

IMO, no OEM dovetail compares to a big aperture like an XS Ghost Ring.

Part of it is the sight radius. You can mount an aperture all the way back on the receiver. Most of the time, dove tails are mounted somewhat forward of the receiver.

I have a Tikka T3 in 9.3X62 I bought it to fit the barrel to one of my Sako's as most just swap over as I have done several in other caliber's .

It was as new with only 3 shots fired from a new box of Sellier & Bellot sold because too much recoil, I thought Pussy as my Mauser 9.3X62 doesn't kick too bad, well I was wrong absolutely smashes in that rifle, I then remembered a guy had one in our Big Game Club in Tassie & it cut the eyes of half the club.

I added a laminated stock, bobbed the barrel off & fitted a suppressor, nice now.

Its not a DG stopper so open sights aren't needed to my mind, I just take a spare scope on long trips OS you won't be taking the scope off & pursuing wounded game in heavy bush, plus you would be two people back on this if so !

If you still wanted to the Tikka action has a Dovetailed receiver you could fit a Peep to, as I said these are no where near being a DG rifle, in saying that I was going to use mine on Dwarf Buff on a self guided hunt, Covid & then civil unrest put a stop to that for now.

a t3x lh 300 win mag being converted to .458
458 win mag?
If so, did you test it in Africa, on buffalo perhaps?
How did it perform?

It sounds like a good combination of factors:
- tikka t3 has good reputation (i have tikka in 308),
- general lack of CRF rifles on the market,
- and 458 win mag (if is in question) designed for this action length.

yes it will be .458 win mag. Africa may be in the cards some day but there are factors that make it difficult at present. My fathers health being chief among the them. For now it will be used for predator called black bears.

Something like an XS ghost ring...inexpensive, small, and light. Given the range and trajectory on a 9.3x62 (about like a 180 gr 308), it's about an ideal backup for hunting where shooting distances are likely to be no further than about 150 yards, like in Limpopo.

If you're bringing a backup scope, it would make sense to have it mounted in its own set of rings. Just more weight, more expense, more room taken up.
