Custom Remington 788 LEFT HAND .308 Win with Leupold 2.5X compact scope. LOP 12 1/2 inches.
Custom Remington 788 LEFT HAND 375 Butch with base and rings, no scope. LOP 13 3/8 inches.

I built this pair of guns for my son a few years back. I worked for Remington at the time and I chose the 788 action because it is STRONG and incredibly accurate (It was used by several benchrest shooters I knew). The removable magazine was a big plus. The 308 was the first, so the stock is shortened to a LOP of 12 1/2 inches. I have some great reduced load data for the little 308 using the Speer 130 gr flat nose that is designed to expand at 30-30 velocities. He killed several deer and hogs, along with 6 more animals in Africa with the little 308. When we planned a cape buffalo hunt in Zambia for my son's 13th birthday, I designed a short action 375 which is the 284 Win case necked up and blown out with a 40 degree shoulder. It comes close to factory 375HH ballistics but fits in a short action. Fred Huntington suggested I name it after my kid so it became the 375 Butch. Clymer made the reamer and RCBS made the dies, both I am including in the sale. Olie Olsen at E.R. Shaw made and fitted the medium weight barrel. I am including 40 formed cases and 40 new 284 Win cases ready for forming. I will not send any loaded ammo for obvious reasons, but I will include some dummies and load data for the 375B. Also a set of Leupold rings and bases for the 788. I thoroughly tested the round for feed and ejection since my 13 year old son would be using it for dangerous game. Butch killed a big buff with one shoulder shot with it. Also a huge record book roan. I want to pass these on to someone that has a young southpaw, so I want to sell the pair for $2000 including everything I mentioned. Christmas is coming!

Since the 375 is approximately standard length and the 308 is youth/girl size, I will entertain selling each one separately. Both of these are incredible sub minute shooters.

@CrippledEagle
Very unusual having 1 let alone 2 left handed 788s they aren't common.
The performance of the 375 Butch should be similar to the 375 Whelen as both have basically the same case capacity. I big hit in a short action. The 35-284 a lost duplicates the Whelen and the 25-284 is a short action 25-06.
Just some useless trivial and information for you.

I love the fat little rebated rim 284 case. Youre right, it has about the same case capacity as the o6. I have built several wildcats on it, as has many of my shooting industry friends. You can pack a big punch in a cartridge that fits in a short action. If you look at the loads pictured, one is a 300 gr. solid. I trimed the case back so I could crimp the bullet in the cannelure, Smart, easy medicine for a dangerous game load. That baby thumps!

The common joke at Remington was that the 788 outshot the flagship 700. Unfortunately, the price points were established and the outstanding little brother fell to the increased machining costs like the pre-64 Winchester Model 70. The 9 locking lugs and fast trigger that were such great features became part of the undoing. The M788 is one helluva rifle but was not profitable, even with cheaper wood.

I still have a 788 in 222 rem. Ugly little critter but I won't get rid of it. Shoots half inch with 3 different loads.

How much for the 375

I will let you have the 375 along with the dies, reamer, brass, extra rings and base as listed for $1000 plus shipping and FFL transfer fee which has been about $75 for other guns I shipped.

Thank you sir. Looks like I will have to list them elsewhere unless someone wants to make me an offer on either or both.

I really like the 375. Not sure how to swing it but let me do some figuring
