Trijicon, Doctor or? for a Heym double

I will be ready to mount a RMR sight on my wife's 88b & 89b in the near future. Due to the mounting system that will be used the sight must have the Trijicon footprint. I would prefer 1 MOA, 2 MOA might be acceptable. Both are available to me in South Africa.

The Trijicon RMR type II seems to fit the bill except in two areas I do not like the idea of having to remove the sight to replace the battery. The big negative it seems that the cover (with magnet) is required to turn the sight on and off or to change settings. I am sure that the cover will either be lost or not available when needed. If I am wrong about this please let me know.

I have a Leica 2MOA on my 9.3x62 and like it a lot. Also had good experience with Burris Fastfire 3s (I own 3: 2 on sling set up semi-autos and 1 on the side of an 8x56 fixed scope).

Not sure they work on the RMR footprint though.

I use the RMR 2 in 3.25moa and am quite happy with it. Very fast target aquisition, both eyes open, quite accurate, and does not affect balance of the rifle. Change the battery at the beginning of season and don't worry. I agree on covers not likely surviving hunting conditions. Good luck!

Also, according to Chris at HeymUSA the Trijicon base doesn't work correctly and he recommends ordering one directly from Heym since they manufacture their own for the Trijicon and then one for the Doctor sights. I am waiting on them being restocked in the USA now.

The Trijicon SRO has the same mount footprint as their RMR, and it's top loading for battery replacement. Plus it has a larger viewing screen. Both RMR and SRO are available with a 1 MOA dot.

At 5O meters and closer, a 3 or 1 MOA Should not matter. Out at 100, the smaller dot will afford us mortal humans a higher probability of accuracy.

Mark, Any issue when it's raining using these sigths? It was suggested to me that a sealed RCR unit prevents puddling of water which would block the projection of the dot image on the glass. However I don't know that we have this option available to be used on a Heym rifle. I need to contact Trijicon and discuss.

I have 2 bases one that i milled myself and another from Germany that Kevin Peacock sourced for me. The factory sight base that I have seen locates the RMR to high above the rib.

Another issue is her 88b has no provision for a detachable sight. Both bases require drilling and tapping 2 #4 screw holes in the rib.

I don't know your name so...

I suppose in a downpour that a Trijicon may have a problem. In the same downpour a uncovered scope may be hard to use due to drops or rain mostly covering the lenses. If I were worried about a downpour in Africa I'd spend $12 on one of these:

I have both a 88b and an 89b with RMRs and am quite happy with them. On my 88Bs the rib was not machined for the RMS but I had it machined instead of using a screw on base. It is a simple machining job.

I have an email into Trijicon to see if the RCR works with the Heym base plate and if so, can it be used on a Double Rifle. I'll update after they respond. However, it would appear it's going to pull your face even further off the comb of the stock. I asked for Trijicon to provide the difference in height of the dot on the RMR, SRO, and RCR.

@ftrovato we got one to T&E. It's the same base footprint for the screen as far as height/dot goes, it's just a blockier closed mode sight, similar to an Aimpoint closed mode. As far as optical performance, it's the same just a closed mode for those that like them.....wasn't enough of a difference for us to change what we're running (RMR on pistols and MRO on rifles).

Easy answer. Get the Trijicon SRO in 1.0 like me. The battery can easily be removed without removing the site. It also gives you faster field of vision. I have owned both the RMR and the SRO. I prefer the latter

This was Trijicons Response. It would seem all 3 including the new RCR will work.
1: The RCR will work with just about any RMR mount. It will not work with ZEV style cuts.

2: The OPTICAL AXIS of each listed below, without a mount.

(where the dot is in the window, is dependent on where your eye is positioned behind the Optic)

I am currently using an RMR. I looked at the SRO etc. as well at the last DSC. My issue was their height being higher than the RMR.

I agree with the battery replacement pain. I am about to replace mine before my hunt in a month, and of course will have to sight it in again.
