SOUTH AFRICA: LJ SAFARIS - Excellent Hunt In All Aspects

I’m sorry for your loss-but love the ram you do get to bring home! Eager for more stories and pictures. Thanks for posting

Tough loss for sure. What beautiful animals they are though. Glad you finally got one. Anxious to hear more about your hunt, especially with the dogs. Sounds interesting. Never done that and honestly never thought about it but I understand some of the smaller critters in the thick brush almost have to be hunted that way. For sure, a different hunt than most posted on here. Very interesting so far.
FYI - I love the Brittany!!

Thank you.

I'll be sure to have some details on the dog days.

I'm into Britts for sure. I breed Britts and train pointing bird dogs to fund hunting trips. Are you a Brittany guy?

Right before the shot on the second vaal rhebuck.

Yes, I am a Brittany fanatic. Orange and white, slightly roan are my favorite. I will PM you as I don’t want to distract from your story.

The area was also flooded with mountain reedbuck, which are always fun to hunt. Here is a nice trophy, and also my friend got an old one-horned mountain reedbuck as a cull.

I think mountain reedbuck are an underrated animal and trophy. They aren't striking in color or looks, their horns aren't that big, but they are pretty switched on and fun to chase.

Great write up so far, is that the beach at Port Alfred? My wife and I have walked that same beach and the farm we hunted has to be my favorite piece of land on earth. Can’t wait to hear the rest of your report.

Thank you.

It was right near there, by Kenton.

I loved the area as well.

We ended up with all sunny days and beautiful weather in the mountains, but happened to hit a string of windy days. For those of you hunt warthogs, you know wind is not your friend. We saw pigs regularly and in decent numbers as it is a good warthog area, but saw only a fraction of what we would have with no wind.

That being said, here is a healthy cull boar we stalked up on. My buddy got him at about eight yards.

(I'll post the pic on the next post... something up with me loading photos.)

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Congrats on your hunt, and thanks for sharing !

I know the feeling. No one will be harder on you than yourself. Tells what kind of hunter you are!

I have a fascination and obsession with hunting behind dogs. I run a bird dog kennel and also have a pack of hounds that run mountain lions, bears, bobcats and raccoons. One of the reasons I booked this hunt was to be able to hunt behind hounds.

I hunted blue duiker behind dogs. It was a unique experience and I really enjoyed it. We did five stands and the hounds (and one terrier) pushed out two duikers. I missed the first at about ten feet, but was able to kill the second, a mature female I was very happy to get. There are other ways to hunt blue duikers, but being a houndsman, I would never pass up an opportunity to do it with dogs. The area we hunted is also where Juan and Lauren hunt oribi with clients. Just driving in and out we saw several, included some males, so I don’t think getting one would be an issue. We could see the ocean from where we hunted, which was cool.

Hello,

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?
