Threeways Safaris Game Rangers;
I thought it interesting and insightful to see the Safari Companies have to hire their own Rangers to control poaching. I believe Threeways had at least 9 on staff. These guys rotated around the concessions and did regular patrols arresting poachers and controlling stray dogs which were killing game.

More proof of the positive effect that the hunting industry has, creating jobs for otherwise unemployed and the conservation efforts people in the hunting industry take part in to ensure our natural resource aren't destroyed.

best what you can do,especially out of the hunting season.
I heared from a big hunting property, near to RSA : 8 Ex Soldiers -black and white, are controlling there.
Poachers, which are coming with weapons.........

This is the problem Botswana now faces since banning hunting. The hunting outfitters had their own anti-poaching units and would do daily patrols. But when the antis and the government banned hunting effectively chasing the hunting outfitters out the country they never guessed that the photographic safari companies would not be interested in those concessions and now they are a free for all for poachers! I saw Johan Calitz has recently returned to Botswana to maintain the boreholes in his former concession because the elephants were dying of thirst. He draws no income from doing it and receives no relief from government or animal rights groups.

Johan Calitz deserves a lot of praise for trying to save those elephants. Even if the poachers eventually get them. Starvation or dehydration is a cruel way to go.

Thanks for the input Jaco. Any other details you care to share would be welcome... And the same from other outfitters on here. I know others do this as well.

I am discovering how "interesting" Africa gets as you go past the RSA border. Not that I don't love South Africa. I WILL be back to hunt her grounds lots more!

We have spent 3 years on a block up in Niassa, when we picked it up it was run down and game number were not astonishingly high, 3 years of employing 6 anti poaching scouts, armed with 1 shotgun! Has made an incredible difference.

We are spotting herds of Sable on a daily basis, herds of Eland, it seems that game has returned to our slice of heaven on the Lugenda.

Even predators, lion and Leopard are now spotted during the day, our Niassa wildebeest and Lichtenstein's are slowly but surely also on the road to recovery.

I truly believe that the Anti's are either not aware or just ignorant to the time effort and passion that most outfitters/operators/ph's have for the blocks or even ranches they operate on.

From where we were 3 years ago, to now is like watching a baby grow, the life has returned, and we will continue, with the help of satisfied clients, to work even harder to restore and protect these beautiful parts of Africa we call our homes and our office.

Well stated and written Jaco... Now that needs to be printed in some places where it gets to the general public and can influence people to not support the die hard anti's..... Unfortunately it all preaching to choir on here... But we do appreciate hearing it! Makes us all feel good.... But we all need to get these messages to where they do good as well.
