The safety of hunters traveling to Mozambique hunting

I am new to AH and this is my first post and hope it ends up in the write place. I have hunted in the Eastern Cape / the kalahari three times now and thinking of going to Mozambique elephant hunting. However I was wondering if anybody could help with advice on the safety of hunters hunting in Mozambique with all the trouble that is happening over there at the moment are any hunting truck/ camps under threat of attack? Any information would be greatly received.

Armed clashes between government of Mozambique security forces and the armed Renamo opposition party took place, mostly in Sofala province, between 2013 and July 2014. Following the signature of a peace accord on 5 September 2014, no further clashes have occurred. If you travel to Sofala province, you should take extra care particularly in remote areas around the Gorongosa hills, as well as in Muxungue, Chibabava, Meringue, Macoss and Canxixi where banditry is reported and tensions still exist

Although caution is always advised, I find government travel warnings paint a much bleaker picture than is reality. A case of CYA on their part, an err way on the side of caution for liability purposes.

Travelling with a reputable guide is unlikely to be a problem. To my knowledge, no foreign hunters have been harmed in Mozambique in recent years.

Hunted the Gorongosa to include the Zambezi Delta region with Grant Taylor and team in August of 14 with no issues - perceived or otherwise. Felt confident enough to include my son on the trip. We hunted three separate camps moving everywhere by road between Beira and Manica.

Ben, there was tension and some violence in Sofalo province last year, but after the peace deal all is quiet and peaceful at the moment. Most clients charter in and out of hunting areas. To date I don't know a single hunting camp that has been attacked or under a threat. I have been hunting for 14 years in Mozambique.

Some parts of Anchorage Alaska are comparatively tame.

However, I can point out a couple of neighborhoods here that are not safe for tourists, or safe for anyone else for that matter.

It has not stopped me from living here for almost 34 years now.

Parts of South Africa are at least as bad, if not worse and I have hunted in that country 3 times now plus once in Namibia (Windhoek is no city for the faint of heart either).

Personally, if I wanted to hunt in Mozambique, I would do my usual serious homework on it and then choose my Safari Company there accordingly and carefully.

Once when vacationing in Equador, war broke out between them and Peru (1995).

So, my girlfriend (now my wife) and I beat feet into Columbia even though there was US State Department Warning to avoid travel there.

We figured it must be better than constantly being stopped at gunpoint by soldiers on the street and asked for our passaportes.

To our delight, nobody tried to kidnap us in Cartagena, nobody even tried to offer us drugs.

Fact is, Columbia was so pleasant (and inexpensive) that we declared it the best part of our vacation that year.

Mozambique has a reputation for more or less "old time" or "traditional" safaris and I would love to see the place some day myself.
