I just returned from a quick little hunt for antlerless mule deer in SW Saskatchewan, about a 5 hour drive from home. I'm giving thanks tonight for the opportunity to hunt with my sons. They have turned out to be good hunters and fine companions. It was satisfying to get back into some big areas of native grassland. Deer were plentiful, the scenery beautiful, and the hunting very good.
We all decided to pass up the easy ones near the road first thing in the morning for a more rewarding hunt on foot, hiking in the beautiful prairie hills of the Frenchman River valley.
We discovered once again that even small deer seem quite heavy after dragging them a couple kilometres back to the truck, and so my own end of the day "easy" deer shot near the road felt like we worked for it too.
We even jumped a couple of moose, in country as unlike moose habitat as I can imagine. It was a very good day.

It is beautiful country.
Thanks for sharing the family event.

Congratulations....hunting with your kids can't be beat!

A day hunting with your family is a day very well spent.

Great report, thanks for sharing. But where are all the trees???????

How long have you been hunting with your boys? It has been 39 years for me. Now there are grandkids on the hunt with us. Family traditions are a good thing.

375Ruger fan, We have dense forest beginning about 300KM North, continuing until the arctic treeline about 1500 KM N of that, but this location is the Shortgrass Prairie, part of the Northern Grain Plains. Too arid to grow trees except in a few corners of the sheltered river valleys. Good habitat for mule deer and pronghorn, and sharptailed grouse, which don't need trees.

Shootist43, congrats on your family tradition. My boys are 28 and 31 years, and have been with me hunting since the age of 5 or 6. My wife and I are looking forward to grandkids, but my Daughter, our only married child, says we are neither on the planning committee or the work crew. ;-)

Hi Joshlee0518 (please let me know if you are fine being addressed like that),

Thought I would drop you a PM. It is super exciting to plan a hunt and we are more than happy to assist you. Have you given any thought yet to which species you would like to take?

What do you hunt usually and which weapons/calibers are you using?

Look forward to swapping experiences and ideas.

Happy hunting - Daniel

Is this rifle sold? If not what is the weight of it and do you know if there is enough difference in diameter between the 35W and the 9.3 to allow for a rebore to a 9.3x62 which is what I am after?
Thanks,
Gary (Just down the road in Springfield)
