Trophy Shiping Costs, Turkiye ( Turkey ) to USA

@SWS1 Glad it all worked out for you both. Yeah, beginning of this year I'm pretty sure Qartar was still carrying trophies then and have only very recently jumped onto the "anti" bandwagon. Might pay to have a word to Geoff before heading ocer to Oz. See what he says about getting trophies back...

Trophy Shiping Costs, Turkiye ( Turkey ) to USA

Hi @SWS1 Thanks for your comments. We are using Geoff Olsen, as we have done for several years. Yep, he is the "go to" guy and I think this particular case has him pulling his hair out but we remain confident he will find a way, eventually ! The nub of the "issue" is airlines. I think now all...

Has anyone heard Alliant is stopping sales of powder for reloading?

I have seen the supposed Alliant "announcement" re suspending powder supplies to the civilian market. Have also seen comment that those same propellants are employed in the making of artillery and tank ammunition in, of course, vastly greater quantities. And while current world hostilities rage...

    shooting 375 H/H

I am quite happy shooting a 375 H&H. I have done some range sessions shooting from a bench of 50 rounds in succession ( allowing barrel cooling ) before feeling recoil weary enough that my shooting starts to be affected. However, I qualify that by saying rifle suitablility is all important. My...

Trophy Shiping Costs, Turkiye ( Turkey ) to USA

@PARA45 No apology necessary, but thanks. Not so long ago we used to be quite well serviced by airlines, even down here in NZ, that carried hunting trophies. Sadly, now most seem to have jumped onto the antis bandwagon and refuse to ship hunting trophies. I'm jealous of you USA hunters as you...

Trophy Shiping Costs, Turkiye ( Turkey ) to USA

@PARA45 @JimP @Vintageguy @375Fox Gents, many thanks for the comments. Since posting my question we ( three of us ) have continued pursuing possibilities with our NZ based customs broker, a great guy trying his best to help. I'm unsure at this stage if there is light at the end of the...

    Swarovski Z6i not holding zero

After a bit of life experience, and reading thread topics similar to this one, my own rule re scopes is: most rifles have something of a mix, either Leupold or Swarovski. Any DG rifle is scoped strictly with Leupold. No disappointments so far.

Trophy Shiping Costs, Turkiye ( Turkey ) to USA

Hi AH Members, I have a question re hunting trophy shipping costs. Some friends and I are wanting to ship Bezoar Ibex trophies from Turkiye to New Zealand, and are rather aghast at just the arifreight rates quoted. We all know about cost increases but these prices seem a bit off the scale. What...

What will Big 5 hunting look like in 20 yrs?

The future of hunting is very muuch in the hands of future governments, especially western governments. Given their track record of managing things properly and correctly doesn't give me great cause for optimism at this particular moment. But, at the same time, surprising things sometimes arise...

    My .243 story so far...

Great story and that rifle has tidied up very nicely. I'm also a 243W fan. I like it so much I have two of them. One a Sako M591, retro fitted with a True Flite 23 inch barrel. It's a little laser. The other a Ruger American Rifle Predator with a crappy plastic stock and a barrel with such a...

Companies that are Non-Supportive of Hunting

I would like to support only airlines that ship hunting trophies and do not support anti hunting organisations. The problem is most of the known airlines now have policies of not carrying hunting trophies, so to travel anywhere overseas one really can't avoid this situation. Hate to say it but...

What problems have you encountered with your Blaser R8?

Also, I found it worth occasionally wiping crud out of the circular recess inside the barrel that the collet expands into. Over time with field use crud will accumulate there and smoother bolt lock up and unlocking is helped by keeping this recess fairly clean. I'm an R93 owner / user, not R8.

What's the best way to Fly to Zimbabwe with guns

Not much mention of Emirates so far but if it's they fly from a convenient airport I would recommend them. My experience with Emirates to Zimbabwe is three trips, all of which worked splendidly with no issues at all. Although my trips started from Auckland, New Zealand, I believe the procedure...

    ZIMBABWE: Zimbabwe With Buzz Charlton

If this is your first hunt with CMS I'm sure, like many others, you will come away thoroughly satisfied with your hunt and very impressed with how their hunts are conducted. After three hunts with CMS you could justifiably call me a fan boy but I truly think you can't go wrong booking with CMS...

    Round Chambered…or Not?

Sounds like most guys here undestand and practise good rifle safety routines. Whatever the usual standard is I think it most important that both PH and client both communicate and demonstrate firearms status on the track and / or on the truck. I generally agree the client should follow the PH's...

Professional Hunters How Do You Judge Game?

The attitude of seeking the older, more mature specimans, divorced from just the physical dimensions, is commendable. Over my hunting career I have come to appreciate this in knowing my own standards for what constitutes a trophy. If hunting with a guide / PH I like to have a conversation early...

    Magnum Primers

That's a fair question. Been along time since any semblance of normal supplies. I know the answer is tied up in current upheaval around the world. Bertram USA, Scam or Ligit?

This is oft repeated but now well a thing of the past. ( Quote by Certus ) I hope Bertram have resolved the past issues and complaints of poor brass quality. Possibly there is reason to think so. An Austarlian friend of mine visited Bertrams recently and obtained some sample brass for one of...

    What TV hunting personality?

Can't think of a "TV Personality" I would want to hunt, or share a hunt, with. While Chad Allen has featured in several hunting videos ( usually with Michelle ) I would guess he's not the type branding himself a TV Personality. Too real and humble to think that way. I have met Chad a couple of...

    Tsetse flies

What does the collective wisdom think of this theory ? Yes, Tsetse flies bite me but my informal observation suggests to me that, given the choice of targets, they seem to gravitate moreso to others, rather than I. As in, for whatever reason, somehow I seem to be a secondary preference. And I...

    Tsetse flies

Zim is the only place I've encountered the Tsetse. No issue at all in Namibia or Cameroon so I don't even know if they have them there at all. H4350 is suitable for both 375 H&H and 30.06 In my copy of Hornady's 9th edition Reloading Manual it is listed for bullets 150-155 gn, 165-168 gn, 190 gn and 220 gn. It is NOT listed for 178-180 gn bullets. I don't use it much for 375 H&H but use some in 30.06 loadings. I find it a bit...

I had a Left Hand M70 Classic Stainless 7mm RM in an aftermarket synthetic stock sort of land in front of me and I snapped it up immediately. What I wanted was a 375 H&H so off to a smith it went for a Douglas barrel ( # 5 contour IIRC ), a new barrel band for the sling, a Wyatt magazine box...

    Wanted Leupold VX6HD 1-6x24 Illuminated

Agreed. I am wanting one to mount on a 375 Ruger. I find the eye relief actually a bit better than a Swarovski Z6 1.7-10 I have mounted now and although optically the Swaro might be ahead the Leupold HD glass is easily good enough, even for my old eyes.
