What's up with todays' gun shops?

I think I may be the odd man out here. I have been a gun guy much longer than I have been into hunting. I have used these black and “Tupperware” guns professionally for half of my life at this point. I use an AR10 in 6.5 creedmoor (funny how a lot of people that bash it can’t spell it) for...

    Show Us Your Hunting Knife

I have several of those, I prefer the gerbers but will be trying out the new hogues soon. I really can’t remember if that was a mallard or Canada goose, at any rate it was my first time cleaning either. I didn’t think I left much behind.

Busse Combat HG55, scrapyard knife company 10-20 and a buck paklite 635. The hawk is a RMJ loggerhead. All the ones I use most often.

    Delta from Atlanta to Joberg

Comfort plus bulkhead would be the minimum. But the next section up would be my pick, I can’t remember what delta called it but with American it’s premium economy, you get the reclining seats there. First class is not worth it in my opinion, that’s an extra animal.

    Things to do in Gaborone

So in case any of you find yourself in the same place I can recommend Mokolodi game preserve for photos and dinner. They will also allow you to do unguided walking tours which is pretty fun. The restaurant sits over a watering hole so you will see some game there, the food is absolutely...

    Things to do in Gaborone

Hello everyone, I’ll be in Gaborone for work, fairly short trip and it will be busy without a lot of down time. Just curious if any of you have any restaurant recommendations, things of interest to see (particularly for a hunter even though this isn’t a hunting trip), areas to avoid. Really...

One rifle for North American big game?

I have settled on a 7prc for this use case. With that being said I will continue to use my 6.5 cm ar10 for deer and hogs

    Red Stag in Argentina

I have not, I have had communication with the exporter, they had a big governmental shift there last year (for the better as I understand it) and the export paperwork had to be resubmitted and was not expect to be processed until this March so I’m hoping I will have an update in the next few months.

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

I was just looking at those and the swift A frames, would be nice to find a solid and tinker with the loads until they had a similar enough POI to shoot them interchangeably. The barnes TSX also seems like a good choice but a little more pricey.

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

Thanks @AZDAVE I think I will be happy with it as well, I’m going to go for it!

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

The performance in a 20” barrel is definitely a big part of my draw to the ruger cartridges as well because I will be using a suppressor in the states and maybe in Africa as well once I figure out all the import /export logistics. It is not really the cost of the rifles in some of the...

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

For sure. That price is extra hard to swallow when I would already prefer the shorter action of the ruger and the non belted case as well as the stock options for the rugers.

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

Since it sounds like you have been to Africa with it a couple times did you have any ammo issues there or happen to see any ammo or any of the PHs using the 416 ruger?

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

I think I have came to the conclusion that I will not be satisfied until I try the 416, if I don’t like it I will sell it or maybe rebarrel it, which I am likely to do with either rifle even if the caliber remains the same to make it a little more suppressor friendly. ** this rifle will most...

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

I am still torn. All of you bring up great points. The 375 ruger has more ammo choices and from what I’m reading can be found fairly easy in Africa, maybe not to the level of the H&H but still there. The recoil is more manageable from all I can tell, all while fitting in a standard action and...

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

I believe they were saying in Africa it’s harder to come by, there are still less choices stateside for sure.

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

@AZDAVE what was your reasoning for the choice?
  21. S

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

@USMA84DAB thank you for the analysis of the two, the 375 ruger ammo being more available in Africa does make me lean that way more. @BeeMaa thank you for your input as well, the ammo availability for the 375 ruger May push me that way over the 416 ruger but I am not interested in the h&h or...

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

Good point, I should have added to the original post that I am not very recoil sensitive so I am not giving that too much weight in the decision.

    375 ruger or 416 ruger?

I am debating between the 375 and 416 ruger cartridge. Either one will be in a ruger Alaskan rifle that I will do a stock upgrade one. Whichever I choose will be paired with a 7mm PRC. The use case for the big bore will be to Hunt Cape buffalo, American Bison and maybe coastal brown bear in...

@375 Ruger Fan we flew from Raleigh North Carolina (my usual airport) to Miami international the Miami to BA flight was supposed to be from 2300 to 0700 the next morning but unfortunately it was delayed until 1300 the day of our planned arrival which put us getting there after 2200 forcing us to...

    Red Stag in Argentina

Just thought I would share some photos from my first hunting trip abroad. This was June 2023. My brother in law, best friend and I went to Estancia el Carrizal in La Pampa for a stag hunt. I can’t say enough good things about the lodge and would highly recommend them.
