Looks like the first off the line is the 1895 SBL in, of course, 45-70. Looking forward to Marlin's NC plant and their expected return to the old JM quality.

I sense a 30-30 coming my way

Wonder how much they will sell for? I looked on GB the other day for a 45/70 lever gun….wow. A guy should have bought an arm load of the Remlin SBL’s a few years ago.

I've heard of guys selling their largely unused 45/70's just because they could make $500-600 over what they paid just a few years ago.

Holy cow, I just checked GB for this model. I just don't understand.

To your point @CWS... I have a GBL I got for a shade under 500 and I paid right around 700 or a hair less for my MXLR in .338 Marlin, both NIB. I could surely net a nice profit now, judging by ones that I see selling online. Alas, I am a sentimental old fool. I almost never sell guns anyway, and never once I have killed something with them. :sneaky:

Personally, I'm hoping they bring back the 444 Marlin. I have several friends that are looking to buy one but the used market for them is nuts.

John did a fairly extensive write up on these, especially where Ruger improved the old Remlin and even Marlin designs, machining, and process. Yes, msrp is up there now, but only a little over what the final Remlin MSRPs were. I'm sure like every ruger, street price will be 10%-15%+ lower. I'm betting the blued wood models will be in that 699-899 MSRP range, less for the rimfires

Sorry to change the subject but anyone have a ruger 77 44mag they hunt with? Been looking at these for a close shot rifle and maybe potentially silencing it for whitetail!

I like lever actions but from an efficiency perspective a SBL does not make a ton of sense. The problem with a 45-70 is that an effective "bear load" is going to kick a lot and the rifle will be 9 pounds or more scoped. At that point a bolt action 375 or 35 Whelen might be just as good if you want a big gun. Of course efficiency isn't everything.

A 30-30 Winchester is lighter and more practical if you want to shoot deer in the brush.

I've been very tempted by Winchester 94s in 444 Marlin. But they might be too light. Internet stories seem to be that various parts work loose under all the recoil.

My dream lever action would be a model 94 in 444 Marlin with a fiberglass stock painted to look like wood.

My hunting buddy is a BLR fan, but has a Marlin .45-70. He was wanting a .338 Marlin, but the recent prices are $1300 and up. But, I told him “you only have so many heartbeats in life”, so go for it. He hasn’t yet. We’ll see. I think it’s a great lever action cartridge.

@CoElkHunter ... My hunting buddy ogles mine; price is holding him back too. I surely appreciate your perspective on it. We have an agreement that he gets mine in the event of my demise. Whereas he's 12 years younger I like his chances.

Hi Joshlee0518 (please let me know if you are fine being addressed like that),

Thought I would drop you a PM. It is super exciting to plan a hunt and we are more than happy to assist you. Have you given any thought yet to which species you would like to take?

What do you hunt usually and which weapons/calibers are you using?

Look forward to swapping experiences and ideas.

Happy hunting - Daniel
