New USA requirements in addition to the form 4457

Now what?

We wait.

And write our Congressman, NRA, SCI, and anyone else you can think of while waiting in an effort yo get this stopped before it truly starts.

Just wanted to chime in - don't have any "answers" on all of this but did speak to a customs agent I know and he was not happy about it. He said he is trying to involve SCI and the NRA because all they are doing is targeting hunters with this process. He also said they plan to do away with the form 4457 which makes no sense as that is required by a lot of the foreign countries for their permits as well. He said you can drive across a border and take all the guns you want without any paperwork but not if you are flying. He said he has a meeting tomorrow on it and will touch base with me after it if he learns anything new. He did not have an implementation date as he said their software is not even ready to handle this.

@Wheels - regarding your mention of the agent entering your information, not sure about that when entering the country but I did question an agent once when we were obtaining our 4457's on new firearms and they run the S/N against the stolen firearm list and also run a background check to make you can legally own a firearm. The customs agent I know also verified that he does this and thus the reason other countries like to see the 4457 because they know that the owner and firearms have been checked out by the U.S. The information is not supposed to be retained in their system!

Wish I had firm answers but it's kind of like dealing with the airlines - every agent you talk to has a different answer that may/may not be correct!

I'll update if I learn anything else but I have not had any clients travelling that have mentioned any issues thus far.
Please let us know what you learn.

When someone has some simple answers please let me know..I am completely confused and concerned.

I hear ya..Specially since I am taking my first safari in September.

I just got off the phone with Coppersmith Logistics, the BLUF is that they can help and take of the filling with the AES Direct stuff. They will need the Name of individual, make model serial# (Info in 4457) of the firearms, and the number of rounds of ammo, all the flight information and they can get it in the system for us. Phone # 310-607-8000 ask for the air shipment export folks and they can assist. Cost $75

They did say that it is something that the travel folks will most likely start offering as part of their service, but that Coppersmith or any other import export folks could assist. I hope the emails and focus by SCI, DSC and NRA kinds of organizations can get the stupidity solved...

Hopefully I will hear something from Gracy today or tomorrow. Will update as soon as I have more.

Good work....That should take care of a lot of us who are worrying. I will do this tomorrow.

I spoke with Robert at SSI this morning. He is checking with a gun importer/exporter he knows. He will hopefully have another option there too for us to get through the process.

Robert, please see AZDAVE's post just above two posts above this one regarding Coppersmith.

Ok......
Here it is in a nut shell....

SSI will do the AES electronic filing at no cost for our clients. Once filed, we will give you the appropriate paperwork to keep with your 4475. This will be part of our service that will add to making your hunt stress free.

Happy Hunting and Be Safe!!!!!
Robert

SSI actions are to be commended! Kudos (or is it kudus:)) to you, sir!

However, this still needs to be addressed & defeated......esp. when it affects those who like to hunt Zimbabwe (i.e. some Federal dictatorial beaurucrat can decide on a whim whether or not you can take your firearms on a hunting trip).
Writing my reps as we speak................I still encourage you all to do the same, if you haven't already.

Thank you......
This is very serious ......
This filling was only for commercial shipping......
There is no way any body can file this unless the are a importing or exporting business and your approved by AES....
We need to stop this it a form of gun control......

Seriously ridiculous... Bob I assume you will need all the info on flight's and weapons?

Thanks Robert, I'll be contacting Rosella about mine in the next week or so.
When I spoke with Bob he said they will contact us when they are ready

Yes Johnny, you have a ways to go......
Were going to get our customer computer program set up to make it easier for us.....

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
