A billed passed the Illinois Senate tonight that was slightly modified from a bill the IL house passed a few days ago. They are calling it an "assault weapons ban", however, it is simply an attack on the 2nd amendment. IL pro gun groups are poised to file litigation and injunctions, but below is a list of what the democrats want from what we know so far. This has not been adopted back by the house or signed by the governor, but is very likely.
-Ban on sales of semi auto rifles that accept a detachable magazine
-ban on ownership of a semi auto rifle with detachable magazine granfathered in unless you register it with the government and pay $25
-ban on semi auto pistol that accepts a detachable magazine with 10 or more rounds.
-ban on possession of magazines holding 10 rounds or more unless registered with government if owned prior to law enactment.
-ban on ANY centerfire rifle shooting a 50 caliber projectile or larger, this appears to include bolt actions in 500 jeff, 505 gibbs, and larger
-ban on Semi auto shotguns with a folding or telescopic stock and pistol grip
-raise age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21
Subject to change, but with the last few USSC rulings, this may be in for a good fight and even possibly overturning some of the already draconian IL gun laws.
