Axis deer is one of the most magnificent medium size deer in the world......they has been brought as a Blacbuck in the twentyes usually for decorating the big gardens of the Estancias (farms) in my country.......today almost hundred years after, there are Axis deer in many provinces and you can hunt them free range in many territories.
The hunt is stalking and spotting all day between the woods and the open field alternatively......they like to stay at the woods but they comes out at the open for feeding and all this makes a very interesting hunt.
Any medium caliber rifle as a .308 is mor than enough to do a good job.
Axis deer is a 100/120 Kilos animal in the case of the males with a brown skin with white spots really beatiful and lyre-shaped horns with usually 3 points per side.......6 total.
The 75 percent of the males drop their horns end of July and Agost to be ready and finshed again in December/January.
I used to hunt them alot in my youth by my self and his meat is very delicate to be cooked in any way you want.
About the trophys here we can say..........
70 centimetres (27.5 inches)..........is a good representative
75 centimeters........is a good trophy
80 centimeters........is a very good trophy
85 centimeters........is a exellent trophy
90 centimeters........Saint Hubertus kiss you
95 centimeters....... you are the chosenone........!!!!!
