Hi All, has anyone chrono'd Hornady factory 450/400 400 grain ammo in their Heym please?
Thanks, KP

I haven't put factory Hornady 450/400 rounds over a chrono but I have put Hornady factory 375H&H and 458 Lott DGX ammo over a chrono. The 375H&H ammo was only just under the advertised velocity out of the 23" barrel of my RSM and the 458 Lott ammo was actually above the advertised velocity of 2300fps out of my Kimber Caprivi 24" barrel, it averaged 2330fps. Hornady definitely don't cheat you out of powder that's for sure.

Please can anyone let me know actual velocity of factory ammo even if it isn't fired from a Heym?

I see Hornady quotes 2050 fps out of a 24" test barrel. So what might be reasonable out of my 26" Heym barrel, 2080fps?

Ok, some feedback from my range session today with my Heym 89b 450/400. Using all Hornady 400grain DGX, VV N565
85gr 2015fps
87 gr 2049fps
88gr 2078fps
90gr 2130fps

The 85 grain L and R touched at 75 metres. Loads higher than that diverged.
Esoteric junkie chrono'd some factory Hornady 450/400 DGX bonded 400 grain for me and got 2000fps out of a 24" barrel. These are what my double was regulated with so it is probably reasonable that factory ammo would achieve 2015 out of a 26" barrel, hence the sweet spot I found.

Touching at 75m is about as close to perfect you will ever get, that's the winner.

Kevin you may want to also try aframes. I have found in about 70% of the doubles I have shot them in that they group best about 40-60fps faster than the hornaday DGX or DGS's.
Thanks Dave, I'll see if I can locate some.

Kevin,
Sounds like you have the real deal in the accuracy department, congratulations.
For what it’s worth and I know you fretted over it but the effort and cost you went through to get the dot sight and mount exactly right was well worth it. looks really good as well !!!

I have to second that. I am not a fan of red dots on doubles. Too often they stick up in the air like some weird appendage. Yours is mounted extremely well, and does not detract from the aesthetics at all. Well done!

Heym does a good job on the mount and the cutout at the rib for the red dots.

Is this rifle sold? If not what is the weight of it and do you know if there is enough difference in diameter between the 35W and the 9.3 to allow for a rebore to a 9.3x62 which is what I am after?
Thanks,
Gary (Just down the road in Springfield)

Forgive me if this is the incorrect area, I signed up to this forum just now because I wanted to be on the list to purchase a copy of your autobiography. Please feel free to pass my information along to whomever is selling. Thank you so much. I look forward to it!
I like the Tillie in my picture. They are supposed to fit loose (2 fingers inside hat band), have mesh for cooling, and hold their shape after washing.
