Concealed Carry

This forum has some amazing information when it comes to hunting and big bore rifles but the amount of bad information in this thread or the apparent lack of handgun training is pretty amazing.
Could very well be true, but comments like this one really doesn't advance or enlighten anyone. Perhaps getting off one's high horse and sharing your expert advice would be a good start. Good advice is always welcomed and appreciated on this forum.

Yup was wondering what everyone had said or doing wrong..... :E Shrug: ....be interested to learn.......

Guys, take a look at VAT Engineering. Their strap holster is the most comfortable I have found and a fraction the cost of any of my leather gear. These guys are weapons development specialists with real time experience in some pretty tough locations. Their stuff works. Vatengineering.com

Only thing I found on their website were feet for a LASKO box fan.:E Shrug:

And as we all know, a LASKO box fan can be pretty hard to conceal. :E Happy:

I will confess to having zero experience with concealed carry and only limited experience with handguns as our government banned them in 1998. I do however try to do some pistol shooting when I’m abroad and found that I quite liked the 9mm Beretta PX4 Storm. I haven’t come across anyone mentioning this in the thread and wondered why? Is there an issue with reliability, longevity or something else?
A PX4 is one of two my brother carries. The other is a S&W 642. The PX4 is a nice gun but I prefer a Glock 27 or S&W M&P C-40. When I need something really concealable, I‘m carrying a P3AT.

Very odd, I see what you mean! I’ll send them a note and let you know when they get it operational again.

I will say I generally carry a Px4 45 acp IWB for 5 years, took a 2 year break, then for another 3 years.

The rotating barrel has kept it from popularity in the American market I’m afraid, as people think they are unreliable, as a populous we prefer the browning tilting barrel design. After several thousand rounds I can say the only issue I ever had with it was my own fault for poorly reloaded ammunition. After that gun was destroyed I ended up buying and carrying a number of different guns, before coming back and getting another. In my option if you’re looking for a moderate capacity 45 to carry they are an ideal choice.

BUT DONT SHOOT RELOADs! I still have the scar where it blew up. Turns out I loaded the same round too many times and the case wall was too thin (1/2 saami spec) and the case head isn’t as supported as it is in other pistols resulting in a weak spot where I had a case head rupture. I have a similar distrust of reloads with Glocks, though I regularly shoot them in all my other pistols.

myself I shoot factory to train, usually the same grain as my defense ammo though it might not be identical because of powder. Every now and then Ill use my defense ammo to train, then Ill go and work overtime to make up for the ammo lol.

OK guys, it looks like VAT has fixed their website. Check out the low profile pistol holster at vatengineering.com. It is by far the most comfortable rig I have used, which at $14.99 is pretty remarkable. Note, it is designed for pistols. It does not work well on revolvers.

WAB, does the holster use your belt as the other side of the holster or is it a pouch holster? The pictures aren’t clear about that. It almost looks like your belt is the other side of the holster. Thanks.

It uses your belt as the other side. Extremely simple.

"Carry" is not legal "Down Under", unless you're something special; even home defence with a firearm will get us locked up, but I have my own: if they get over the fence, past the dogs, and through the doors they'll meet Mr K; a Nepalese Kukri. This could get me arrested, but that's a chance I'll take ... Administrators remove this if you think it's not acceptable...

i retired several years ago, but when I carried for duty I used a S&W 66 2 1/2" in a bianchi shoulder harness- It's discontinued now, but it was great. A loop for each shoulder with two thick elastic bands across the back. One loop held the holster with the gun held horizontally, the other side held two speed loader pouches. On retiring I sold it to a parole officer- though several times I''ve wished that I still had both.
I preferred shooting handloads because I developed loads that gave decent velocity but the muzzle flash was considerably less than factory loads.

Hi Joshlee0518 (please let me know if you are fine being addressed like that),

Thought I would drop you a PM. It is super exciting to plan a hunt and we are more than happy to assist you. Have you given any thought yet to which species you would like to take?

What do you hunt usually and which weapons/calibers are you using?

Look forward to swapping experiences and ideas.

Happy hunting - Daniel
