One rifle for North American big game?

My choice would be a 7mm-08 or, even better, a 7mm SAW if you’re a hand loader. For me, I’d go with a medium contour 22” - 24” Bartlein barrel & 8.5” twist. Manners stock & Zermatt action. Timney or Trigger tech trigger. Hawkins M5 BDL bottom metal with Wyatt’s extended mag box. Hawkins rings...

Help me decide: which Plains Game Bullet for my 7mm-08?

I'm curious to know if your PH elaborated on why the 7mm-08 was alarming to him. Based on my readings, not personal experience, the 270 seems to have been used successfully on PG in Africa for the better part of a century now. Nosler load data suggest an average load to run 2800-2850, with...

Help me decide: which Plains Game Bullet for my 7mm-08?

I’d go with whatever shoots best in your rifle. Both solid choices. I’d also take a hard look at the 160 Accubond. I killed my first bull elk this past fall with a 160 Accubond out of a 7 SAW (improved version of 7mm-08) at 531 yards.

    Best 30mm rings

I do utilize mostly Nightforce scopes, especially on my primary rifles. However, I have two rifles with Leupold VX5s that were chosen for weight savings over similar Nightforce offerings. Again, no issues. You are absolutely correct, per engineering principle (calculated fact, not opinion)...

    Best 30mm rings

I'm a big fan of Hawkins Precision rings. All of my high use custom rifles currently wear them. For a more classic look, Talley has good reviews, although I've never personally used them. I have a rifle in the works for Africa next summer. A classic build on a pre 64 M70 that I plan to use...

Yes. That is the plan currently. For us, this trip is more about doing it all together as a family for our first African experience. My son is only 9 currently, 10 in about 6 weeks & will be 11 by the time the safari rolls around. My wife enjoys hunting, but she is more of a waterfowl hunter...
