Thanks for the pics, Axle2010. Yeah, those look about the same height as my Warne rings. Very nice!

30mm rings? Please post a pic when you get the scope mounted! I’d like to see if the AAs are lower than my Warne rings.

    New Lipseys M77 .35 Whelen

I selected the options for a Boyd stock, then emailed them to make sure it would fit my Ruger Hawkeye African .375 as it was not specifically listed in the drop down. The barrel and screw dimensions were correct. Their response was “Sorry, we do not offer a stock for that model”. Glad I...

    Alaska Arms Mag Extender

Yes, they fit Ruger’s proprietary integral base cuts and AA’s are the traditional horizontal split ring as opposed to Warne’s vertical clamp. Just aesthetics for me, I guess. These Warne rings have been great on my .375 so not throwing any shade on ‘em.

I would definitely go with AA’s QD rings for your Ruger also. The Warne rings on mine are doing their job so can’t justify swapping at this point.

    Alaska Arms Mag Extender

Just to follow up, I did purchase AA’s mag extender for my Ruger .375. Morris is indeed a pro & went the extra mile helping me with shipping. Installation took 10 minutes, fit is perfect, and it cycles flawlessly with the stock follower spring as Morris promised. It’s heavier than the factory...

    Another Poor Man’s Double

My observation is that when the SxS is locked, the breech end of the insert is held solidly at the receiver face akin to a 12ga shell’s rim. The o-rings at the muzzle end just help maintain center in the bore, of course. They must be affected by the insert’s harmonics at firing so act somewhat...

    Another Poor Man’s Double

For me, .45-70 is the nearly perfect caliber for hogs in these dense piney woods PLUS the option to hunt with the Brenneke slugs so having the inserts permanently installed was never considered. 00 or #4 Buck option is nice too. As stated, my plan is to shoot 405gr CAS loads at 1150fps with...

    Another Poor Man’s Double

A second, but nonetheless important consideration I had with exposing the .45-70 barrel crowns 1/8” past the muzzles was to lessen hot gas impingement on the Chaszel insert’s tip o-rings. Can’t get around normal barrel heat transfer but I sought to eliminate direct contact with burning powder...

Yes. The Warne QDs attach like standard Ruger rings with no rail needed.

    Another Poor Man’s Double

Chaszel suggests the inserts can be rotated in the host barrel until desired POI is obtained, then the insert and chamber face indexed to that position. I’m a little dubious of that, but still hope it will be that easy. If regulation is way off I will make a clip as described previously.

    Another Poor Man’s Double

Well, I cut the barrels at 23-7/8” specifically to leave the barrel insert’s crown exposed with the thought I might later need to machine a thin flat clip that fits over the barrel ends and could pull/push the barrels together/apart for regulation. I saved the 4” barrel cutoff piece for this...

    My first 416 finally!

I did replace that thin (and hard) factory recoil pad with a 1” Decelerator on mine to increase LOP a bit. With a Leupold VX-6HD 1-6 and Warne QD rings mine is just over 10#s. Alaska Arms makes an extended floor plate for these Rugers that adds 1 additional round, additionally.

    My first 416 finally!

Congrats on your new Ruger! I have an African in .375 and really like it but could wish for a little more wood in the wrist area. If you don’t have an in-lbs torque wrench capable of 90#s, get one. That’s Ruger’s spec for the front action screw and their “solution” to stock cracking, apparently.

Thoughts on reviving a cowboy cartridge for dangerous game

Lots of jacketed & monos available if you decide on .410. I see 350gr .408 cast available that would eliminate a custom mold expense.

Thoughts on reviving a cowboy cartridge for dangerous game

Might shoot an email to Chaszel (Central Tooling) and ask if they will cut you one of their threaded barrel blanks in .40 cal. They do offer a shotgun adapter in .40 so I figure they are already setup with the tooling.

    Alaska Arms Mag Extender

Just received a reply from Morris at Alaska Arms and he states that the follower, hinge pin, and mag spring from the original rifle work fine with the extender and there’s never been any feeding issues. That seems odd to me but I can’t find any negative reviews online…but no positive reviews...

    Alaska Arms Mag Extender

Interested in feedback on AA’s Ruger magazine extender. I see it’s stainless which wouldn’t match my African but I could live with that for the benefit of an extra round & a little extra weight, assuming good reviews.
