    Gastinne Renette info?

I am not an expert... Are there more proofs under the chambers? I'm not seeing a smokeless proof so I'm guessing it's proved for black powder. The K with a star is for inspector Delsaux Walthere who worked as an inspector from 1929 to 1968. But that's where it seems odd because in 1924...

    The Perfect 9.3x62 Safari Rifle

My Husqvarna 1640 in 9.3x62 is a smart looking rifle with great figure in the walnut and shoots about MOA. Talley lightweights and a Meopta scope outfit the rifle for low light shooting. That's more than enough gun for me within the confines of the range of the caliber.

    The Perfect 9.3x62 Safari Rifle

Right here. I would take a Husqvarna 1640 in 9.3x62 over a pile of Rugers and Winchesters. They also come with a set of simple express type sights and classically continental stocks. If you dont prefer the schnabel, have someone chop it off, install an ebony tip at your desired forend length...

Finally Found a Brno in 9.3x62

Clodo, It is stamped 1967. I believe the stock is original, as I have a ZKK-600 in .30-06 with the same stock. I believe these older ZKKs came in three stock variations: the squarish Weatherby style with the "rosewood" (I'm not sure if they were rosewood or just stained red) forend tip, the...

Finally Found a Brno in 9.3x62

I appreciate everyone's comments and support for my rifle addiction! It will be a bit before I can get it in hand and to the range, but I'm definitely looking forward to it

Finally Found a Brno in 9.3x62

Will do. And yes I forgot I do have two of the Z rifles (21/22...I can never remember the correct model). Both the carbine length stutzens with round topped receivers...8x57 and 7x57.

Finally Found a Brno in 9.3x62

Being in the US, we don't have a ton of older Brno rifles floating around. I'm lucky to have a ZG47 in 8x57, a ZG actioned Hussar in 30-06, and two ZKK600s from the 60s with pop up peeps in 30-06. Yesterday I saw a ZKK600 in 9.3x62 show up on an importers website and although I felt the...

Most likely but you never know until you slug the bore. Any chance you can get a picture of any marks under the chamber?

    Mauser Purchase

I believe it depends on the maker. There were many rifle factories during the war. Typically WWI German military rifles were marked Gew. 98 denoting the "Gewehr 98" large ring version of the Mauser rifle. But this is a general and over simplified guideline...when it comes to military...

    Mauser Purchase

I'm fairly certain that if it has "Mod. 98" on the side rail it's WWII, which would put it's sporter conversion sometime post-war.... I'm just guessing but I would wager the 50s. Also fairly evident based on the styling of the stock.

    Mauser Purchase

I'd say they're machine made but still require fitting. https://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/proddetail.php?prod=5102 "Each rings comes with a semi-fit front base plate. Gunsmithing required."

    Husqvarna 246 with Recoiling Sling

You're right Red Leg, the model 246 was produced by Husqvarna in 1939, 1940, and 1941. Later models of Husqvarna 98s employed the FN commercial 98 action. The model 146 (9.3x57), the 246 (9.3x62), and I believe some versions of the model 640 employed the surplus FN military style actions with...

    Mauser Purchase

My guess is a post war gun trade rifle to be sold to US servicemen stationed in Germany. This was a good source of income for German families who had gunsmithing skills during a time of economic challenge for the German people. They would often take plentiful surplus WWII Mauser rifles and do...

    Husqvarna 246 with Recoiling Sling

I recently purchased this Husqvarna 246. It's one of the rarer Husqvarna rifles and it's a 9.3x62. The odd thing about this rifle is the addition of a Bretelle Automatique mechanism in the stock similar to the Manufrance made shotguns. It appears that the the original sling swivel hole was...

    Brno ZKK Peep Sights

Ok good. I figured it was due to people removing them for whatever reason and losing them. But since they are practically irreplaceable, I wanted to ensure I didn't neglect something and lose them in the woods. I may go the loctite route. These are phenomenal guns and the pop up peep sight...

    Brno ZKK Peep Sights

I now own two (1960's) Brno ZKK rifles with the pop up peep sight in the rear bridge. I have heard of people losing these sights accidentally. Is there something I should be aware of regarding these sights? Do they tend to fall out or do people just remove them to mount scopes and then lose...

    Rifle On Gunbroker

Expert marksmen with stars on their shoulders? I mean no disrespect but if you would have said stripes, I would have an easier time believing this comment. Do pic rails belong on a sporting rifle? No, but not because they dont work but because they lack the class. SEM may be beautiful, but...

    7.5 x 55 Swiss Smith/Ruben K31 rifle

I had one in the good ol days of cheap surplus guns and ammunition. It shot beautifully with the Swiss GP11 ammunition. I enjoyed the rifle very much but I moved on to sporting rifles and it moved on to another owner who appreciated it as well. Dandy guns.

sxs shotguns: 20 vs 12 for game?

If only one gun, a 12 can do everything a 20 can and pattern better. If the options were more open, the easy choice is a 16. Best of both worlds. A 6.5 lb 12 gauge is just about perfect for most things though, I believe. From dove, to grouse to mallards, a 70mm chambered 12 can handle most...

    J.P. Sauer Double

Older thread, but I respectfully disagree with Red Leg. This gun, in my opinion is prewar. This is a lower grade Sauer boxlock gun, but they are still nice doubles and usually pretty light weight. I would agree with Red Leg that it is most likely a 65mm chamber. Use 65mm shells in it...

    Thinking about building a 9.3x62

Did you make a decision on your platform yet? I have a Parker Hale Hussar (ZG47 action) I've been very tempted to get rebored to 9.3x62. Sadly though, the barrel is only 22". If I was in your shoes, I'd probably go with the CZ because I really enjoy the set trigger and square bridge actions...

So you clearly used steam to do the rust conversion...did you find it worked as well as boiling? I've been itching to try it this way and would love to hear your opinions regarding the steam rig. How long in the steam to convert the rust?

    Thoughts on the 9.3 x 62 Mauser

Tom, I did the same as you. Those models came with great sights, a barrel mounted sling swivel and nice rust blue. I eventually added a 1640 in 9.3x62 as well. They're great guns. I have another one of those Husqvarna 98s in 9.3x57 that was modified prior to my ownership and so is not really...

    Thoughts on the 9.3 x 62 Mauser

In the Mauser community, this is an oft-debated topic. Similar to the 6.5x55, 7x57, and 8x57, the 9.3x62 is not typically a high pressure round. I imagine a handloader could stoke it up to higher pressures however. The Husqvarna small ring actions are strong enough for the typical pressures...

    Thoughts on the 9.3 x 62 Mauser

It's a model 96/small ring action. Not an FN and not a 98. Some really enjoy the "commercial" (no thumb cut in the left receiver wall) small ring action and state that it makes a good lightweight sporter.

Long Barrelled Mannlicher Schoenauer - Float or Bed the Barrel?

I am currently engaged in a Mannlicher project with a 25" barreled 6.5x54. I've inletted a half stock and now that it's time to bed the action, I'm wondering if I should bed the barrel channel or free float the barrel for the best accuracy? Anyone have any insight into how the 1903 action...

These two bullets seem very similar with the exception of price. Has anyone ever used both and are there major differences in their performance (both accuracy and on game)?
