Very nice rifle,
I have one in similar condition in 30-06. Very accurate.
For anyone interested you can get on the sako collectors forum and they have a link you can get the original sako records for the rifle for about $20. I have scans of the handwritten ledger.
Mine was made August 11th...
I just sold an old diesel 350 that didn't run for 1,500. Cost them another 1500 to get it running and still needed more work as the steering brakes were locked up from sitting almost 30 years.
So sounds like a good price to me
Thank you,
Gunshop owner's book didn't show a premium over other calibers and wanted me to list it on consignment at 650. Pretty sure it's worth at least double that. It does have the stupid crossbolt safety though, it's from the early 90s I think.
I have a 625 mountain gun from the first run back in the early 90s i think. I love that one and took a mountain lion with it.
Also a 32 h&r magnum.
I bought that one new but currently have it in consignment at a local gunshop. Don't wanna put more wear on it and it's fairly collectible.
I have 2 57s. Recently inherited from my uncle. One like yours and a longer barrel also.
I've not fired them at all yet though.
I also have a new in the box marlin 1894s but I think that will be sold for my aunt. Just not sure the value at this point.
I have 3 vintage holsters for a contender. 2 used and 1 still in the packaging. I would guess 30+ years old.
Helping my aunt sell my late uncle's things.
$225 shipped for all 3.
I have 6 at the moment. I'm booked for bear in September in Michigan after a 10 yr wait.
And muskox in February.
I'll likely never get a sheep or goat. I dropped out of applying in Colorado as I'd rather spend the money on something further from home.
I've killed 2 aoudad if that counts...
Interestingly, due to the new airport opening in Nuuk the end of this year I'm no longer seeing direct flights in from Copenhagen at the time I'm going.
Copenhagen to nuuk to kangerlussuaq for a total of 24 hours and double the price.
Return is direct though.
I'll be checking with an...
I got mine in Ontario Canada, but if I wasn't worried about the cost Alberta has a really good outfit. Wolf hunting adventures. They got 28 this year.
Minnesota, michigan, and wisconsin currently do not have a season.
Answering this also. I used SSI just like Jim did. We actually only live a few miles apart so I went with his experience.
I'm not sure why but it took 6 weeks for my crate to totally clear. It did have 2 finished warthog in it.
There were zero additional fees over the original quote.
He...
My ph had quad sticks like you mentioned. It was my first time using them and I loved them. Takes a little getting used to but not bad.
I now have a set of my own
My shipment came in January through jfk.
I used ssi as an agent. I'm not sure why but it took nearly 6 weeks for final clearance.
But SSI honored the original quote. They're a little higher to start but had no problems.
My Whelen is a stainless Hawkeye and the 180 barnes was the only bullet it shot well when I got it.
I've killed 1 moose. 1 antelope , 1 whitetail and a turkey with it.
The moose only went about 40 yards with a double lung shot.
Very cool,
I had tags in Alaska 3 times just in case I saw a wolf but only had one failed sighting while caribou hunting.
I was successful on my third dedicated hunt in Ontario with 2 only ten minutes apart.
I have zero debt.
But I live on a porch. Drive vehicles that look like they should be in the junkyard.
I put 7% in retirement fund and company matches 5%.
Spend about 20k+ a year on hunting trips but most are 6k all in.
I'm 56, work 6+ days a week and will continue to work and go until I'm...
55 last year, I will go again at 58.
My traveling life for hunting began at 45 and is rapidly accelerating. Lol
A few other countries getting randomly added in also.
I go with my son or alone. Only once with someone i thought was a friend that turned into a disaster.
I've always connected really well with guides and on at least one occasion been invited back as a non paying guest to hunt as friends.
My bank charges $45
But every time they have issues and confusion. Sometimes have to go back the next day even.
I have used PayPal and venmo for some transactions.
They got super confused over the use of an IBAN as apposed to swift code this last time
Small local bank that does always get...
I've hunted with Mike 4 times. Twice successfully for aoudad but failed twice on axis deer. I seem to be cursed on those. Since prices have gone up I'll likely hunt them in another country as Texas is basically the same or more these days.
Always a good time and a really interesting group...
I did one with pope brothers many years ago.
Down by Laredo. Wasn't what I expected though.
Drove around on the side by side through the prickly pear. Turned on the corn spreader on the back. They literally ran out within 10 minutes. We killed 6 in a couple hours.
Would research better...
On the public land that I deer hunt here in Colorado I see on average 10 other hunters per day. I've seen 1 suppressor being used so far. I've heard of a couple other guys using them but that's all I've physically seen so far.
That's really cool,
I worked for Mick and Karen way back in the mid 80s for 2 summers. Although I doubt they would remember my name they should remember the dumb kid from Wisconsin that broke both legs while raking the hay field out in front of the house. Lol
Due to this thread I sent in my 15x50 HD vipers that were not nearly what they were when new. My grandsons 10x vipers were clearer and more usable.
Within 2 weeks I had the original binos back but the only original parts was the shell. All lenses and everything else was replaced.
I'm just the produce manager in an extremely busy grocery store. Will be 37 years next month.
Busy meaning about 7 million dollars just in produce alone per year.
Makes it tough to go on all the hunts I dream of but I'm slowly making progress.
Welcome to the forum,
I have 1 of your sights on a marlin and need to upgrade soon.
We spoke long ago. I worked on the chef guest ranch when I was a kid out of Charlo
My crate just arrived from Johannesburg.
8 euros and 3 flat skins.
From crating, shipping to my door in Western Colorado and broker fees is was $3,900
Largest animals were wildebeest and hartabeest. Crate could have been made smaller for sure though.
I can't even think about how to choose a favorite. Only to say any hunt my son can go with me on. With a young family his opportunities are limited now. I'd give up anything else to hunt with him or my grandsons.
Other than that I enjoy new places and new animals to hunt no matter what they...
I've recently progressed to the 4 legged sticks. But they can also be used as 2 in a hurry.
Started in limpopo last year and recently bought my own.
Brain shot on a muntjac doe at over 100 yards a few weeks ago.
Like mentioned, this was while watching and being told exactly which one to...
I brought the rechargeable battery packs. There was no electricity in our cabins but the outfitter would charge our battery packs for us every couple days while we were out hunting.
I'm always booked nearly 2 years out for what is to me 1 big trip a year to guarantee what I really want.
I have some flexibility at work for in between things but haven't gotten anything I really wanted yet. Or could still afford anyway.
I spend a lot of time on websites also. But just general information to look at. Personal messages are the deciding factor. Also here and Facebook pages where they find it easier to post things quickly and respond quickly.
The biggest crooks I've come across had the biggest fanciest websites...
I certainly did ,
Nothing negative about this trip at all.
Well. I did almost get run over when I looked the wrong way crossing the street due to things being opposite to what I'm used to. Lol
And warmer than at home.
I'm booked with him for the first hunt of 2025 the end of February.
I haven't seen any bad reports but that's all I have to go on.
By far the best deal out there
