    Possibly dumb sling question

The Trader Keith sling was recommended by several members here to me several years ago. Liked the first one, I own several now. Previously used leather or nylon and was constantly hitching the rifle up on my shoulder.

Recommendations for a range revolver in .38 Special

Well, chatted with our AH master enabler @Mark Biggerstaff of @R&M FIREARMS today and it appears I'll shortly be the owner of a very nice S&W Model 67-1 revolver. Thanks for everyone's opinions and comments on this thread. Mark tempted me with a Model 17 also, but I have 2022 taxidermy being...

A cautionary tale - Traveling with ammunition in luggage

Hard to figure. Going through the airport in Eugene OR awhile ago with a brother, had a P-38 can opener in his wallet from fishing/ camping, TSA caught that. That is a small scrap of metal!

    Snakes!

Three trips to Eastern Cape, saw a boomslang and a small striped snake in late April. The other trips in July, none were seen. Much colder in July.

    Any other Cheese lovers here?

Stopping in Woodman's every fall in Madison after the annual bird hunting trip, the Stone Ridge cheap brand (3 year cheddar) was something to look forward to. Always load up on several kinds of cheese for the holidays and Klement brats. I enjoy visiting Wisconsin.

Recommendations for a range revolver in .38 Special

Nothing this fancy for certain. Spent some range time with a family member after work today and the 686 no dash had a few rounds through it. I like this new to me revolver. Trigger in single action is very crisp.

Considering the Model 10. You could call me fairly stupid for passing on a very nice one 10 years ago (would like that opportunity back) that was nearly pristine.

Recommendations for a range revolver in .38 Special

I've read about that somewhere and never even gave it a thought. I have a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in .45 Colt with a separate .45 ACP cylinder, always thinking of this with single action vs double action. Is it simpler to swap out a fitted cylinder versus a complete assembly with a new fitted yoke?

Recommendations for a range revolver in .38 Special

I've considered a couple options with this topic before posing my question. I think I have a 5 gallon bucket of fired .38 Special brass. I've considered selling or scrapping but honestly would like to utilize it as I have plenty of small pistol primers. I previously owned a Ruger Security 6...

I've read reviews of the Manurhin, a bit above my expected price range. I should have specified that. From what I've read they are excellent revolvers. I've only seen one for sale in a gun shop. Thanks for mentioning this model, @One Day... the revolver I'd like to purchase will be an indoor...

Recommendations for a range revolver in .38 Special

I currently have an early model 686 S&W .357 Magnum 6" ,and would like to have another revolver for shooting just .38 Special cartridges. More so a range revolver for mild shooting practice. The 686 I'd like to keep to .357 Mag cartridges to not have to scrub carbon rings out of the cylinder...

    Recommended Ammo for .375 H&H?

Tried a recent manufacture box of Hornady 300 gr DGX on the 100 yard range for a comparison against factory Barnes 300 grain TSX, the Barnes TSX was more accurate in my rifle. So I proceeded with Barnes for a nilgai hunt and was successful with a 250 yard shot. I'd like to sort this out as I...

    Favorite animal hunt

If locally in the midwest US, Wisconsin for Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock when the leaves fall. Where I live, it would be tree rats! I really like the start of our hunting seasons when it starts to move into autumn and finding a good spot to sit in some mature hardwoods. A rimfire rifle preferred...

    17 Mach 2

5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum is likely the most difficult to secure ammo for IMO. Have about 1000 rounds for a Remington 591M. Aguila made a run of ammunition several years ago. No experience hunting with it. I'm not sure it would be a better choice than a 30 grain VMAX from a .22 WMR from my...

    17 Mach 2

As for some current ammunition availability, wandered through a new Vance Outdoors store yesterday here near Cincinnati and saw a good amount of Hornady 17 grain Vmax on the shelf, likely close to a hundred 50 ct. boxes. This is the load I principally shoot in my Savage 17 Mach 2. $11 a box.

    Bobcat catching Heron mid-flight

Looking at the shadow of the heron's neck and head on it's left wing. Color me skeptical. Although I would love to see this actually happen. I think at that point the heron would be trying to stab the hell out of that bobcat.

    Financially ready for a Safari?

Biggest change for me at age 56 (after deciding to look at Africa when closer to retirement at 65) was the settling of my parent's estate, never expected much of that. Plains Game With A .375 ...Recommended ? If so 250 Grain or 300?

Blooded my new to me Winchester Model 70 this evening with a 296 lb field dressed Nilgai, using the Barnes 300 grain TSX factory load. Shot was 260 yards, through the shoulder, ran about 100 yards. Alot of firsts, first game taken with this rifle, first with 375 H&H Magnum and first with a...

What binoculars do you use while on Safari?

Zeiss Victory T*FL 8x32 binos that I use for birdwatching have been taken twice and last year used my Zeiss Conquest 8x42 binos. The Victory model is lighter. Cull Hunt in 2024?

I had eight days of hunting, Cull animals were springbok, impala and warthog primarily. I have a Savage Mark II, didn't like the synthetic stock so put it in a Boyd's laminate. Hornady 17 grain V-Max had the best availability and I have mostly that. Quiet year for me after switching to a new company for work. No Africa trip this year, looking at 2026. I'm heading to south Texas for Nilgai this winter; Canada for a walleye/pike trip and northern Wisconsin for grouse and woodcock. Maybe North Dakota for waterfowl and upland birds. Some...
