    Show off your 100-year-old guns

Hello, Here it is my DWM Original Sporter Mauser 1893. From my great grandfather. Made in 1897, so, 117 years old... The only one exactly like this I ever saw was in a site named Collectiblefirearms. Numbered around 200 more than mine. That one had factory double set triggers. Mine is semi...

    8x68s donor action build suggestions?

Hi Skeet, I would chose a standard lenght CZ 550 or a BRNO ZKK 600. Noticeable longer magazine than a Mauser 98 but not too heavy like a true magnum lenght action. These actions are also ideal for 9,3x62 and 9,3x64. In fact, BRNO ZKK 600 was factory made for both. Good luck! CF

    Recommended Ammo for .375 H&H?

Hi, For big game the size of many african "plains game", I have used the Nosler Accubond and Partition 260 grs and Barnes X 250 and 270 grs. Plus the more "plain" Hornady Spire Point 270 grs and Sierra Game King 250 grs. Of all of these, I would select the Nosler Accubond 260 grs or the Barnes...

    Recommended Ammo for .375 H&H?

Hi mark-hunter, Thank you for your ABC Hirtenberger bullets history! By the way, this could explains the similarity, external, with the actual Slovenian FOX Bullets. I have the monometalic 220 grs 9,3 FOX bullet. The top one in the picture. CF

Help me decide: which Plains Game Bullet for my 7mm-08?

Hi, After using the same cartridge, 7x57, on similar size game for more than 50 years, I would recommend the Nosler Partition or Accubond 160 grs loaded at 2650/2700 f/s. By the way, the NP is one of the only bullets that is soft enough to expand at low velocities but strong enough to assures...

    Red Deer March 31 2024

Hi, My very recent Red Deer. A somewhat rough hunt, abrubt part of the Andes. Full rut, some 8 deers roaring out of sight. Suddendly this one appears at 300 meters below us. Shoot at 250 meters aprox, (red circle) broke the spinal cord but the deer fall 50 meters downhill stopping in an almost...

Hi Fallschirmjaeger, Good for you!!! Congratulations! I found mine abd bought it as soon I saw in the second hand guns page of a gunshop in Madrid. We met one year later, visiting a son there. Travel back with the rifle, all papers OK to leave Spain and to introduce here. My favorite rifle...

    9.3X64 load data

Hi Veritas, I meant if you ARE a handloader I would choose de 9,3x62. But, thinking again, agree with you in some way: as a handloader either round will be very good with the added versatility of the x64. And going further, f you can get with relative ease, factory 9,3x64 Brenneke cartridges...

    9.3X64 load data

Hi Cajun, The 9,3x64 Brenneke is, to me, an almost perfect design for a 9,3 mm rifle! Having said this, if you are a handloader I would chose the 9,3x62. The difference in muzzle velocity, both loaded at simmilar pressures and barrel lenghts is between 75 and 100 f/s...plus the GREAT factory...

Hi Frederik, The 308 ZKK is one of my old rifles I have not used too much...Really I did not falled in love with it...Some time it was in one of my brother in law hands. He used almost nothing. Anyway, the stock has his knocks and marks and some white corners in the blueing marks. I used the...

    BRNO ZK vs CZ 550

Hi Sarg, If it was me, I would have done the same: to use a ZKK 600 with the ZKK 602 barrel to make a more aproppiate 458 Win!! Your pictures reflect the same differences in finish of my ZKK´s from 1967 vs 1977. Best! CF

    BRNO ZK vs CZ 550

Hi saswart, I have 2 ZKK with 10 years age difference: a ZKK600 in 9,3x62 made in 1967, esentially really the first year of full ZKK production, and a ZKK601 in .308 Win made in 1977. Both have the pop up peep sight and the barrel mounted front sling swivel. There are noticeable differences in...

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

Hi soumya, I like the slowest powder usable in the cartridge that fill the case for a close to 100 % load density or, better, slightly compressed load, for the best or close, pressure/velocity relationship.

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

New Find No. 14 Brevex - an Orig Post War John Rigby Big Game Rifle in 416 Rigby Caliber

I buckstix, Congratulations!!! Great rifle! About the weight with scope, I see THAT scope "colaborates", too much, for this. It is a steel tubed one, a lot heavier than needed and not the best serie of the Swarovski scopes. This will be the first to change to me. Perhaps for one Kahles Helia C...

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

Hi, If you are looking for the best cartridge cases, to me they are the RWS. Little less capacity, not a big issue, but truly great in ALL other aspects. I have used them in 7x57, 375 and 9,3x62. None better compared with the other I have. They are more expensive, indeed. NORMA came second from...

    Scope Zero Dependability?

Hi, My most dependable scopes are two fixed power Zeiss: 1-Zeiss Diatal DA 4x32 bought new in 1972. Still in use in my Mauser-Werke 1935 7x57. Non centered reticle and not truly sealed. Its optics has nothing to envy to a new 4x scope. NOTHING. This scope has survived incredible knocks and...

    9.3x62 load

Hi wswolf, Yes, the Winchesters 748 and 760, both excelent for 250 and heavier bullets, respectively (my second favorite 250 and lighter bullets is the W 748), are somewhat temperature sensitive. The thing is they are, or were...one of the few powders imported here! Good luck! CF
  37. C

    9.3x62 load

Hi wswolf, Your loads almost matches mines! With all 250/258 gr bullets I use 63/64 gr R15 for 2650 f/s. With 286 gr bullets I use 66/67 gr W760 for 2450/2500 f/s. All using NORMA cases. Of course, this loads MUST BE APROACHED FROM 2 or 3 gr BELOW!!!!! Best CF

    9.3x62 load

Hi Karakolev, I do not load for the 9,3x62 with 258 gr RWS Speed Tip pro. But I do for the H-Mantel 258 gr in my 9,3x62. And many 250 gr cup and core and mono metallic bullets as well. I don´t know your rifle barrel length but if yours have 22" to 24" and if you want to know the potencial max...

    Other H&H Magnum Calibers

Hi hperk9,3, If you are considering ONLY H&H belted cartridges, I would select .275 H&H+400 H&H+465 H&H. If there are other options outside H&Hs, I chose 400 J + 458 Lott. Good luck! CF

Mauser -Werke model 66 3 barrel set

Hi Markinnz, As I said, that great Zeiss Diatal 4x32 (I bought one new and still have in use it since 1972, mine without rail) would be great in your 375, covering the need for a scope in a rifle like it and as a bonus, lowering the total weight. That Diavari 2,5-10x52 is one of the very few...

Hi H-H, I have not hunted for african lion, and I almost sure will never do! But from friend´s reports that did it, general african reports and talking with some Namibia PHs that works with clients from here, they said to prefer not to tough bullets that open quickly but penetrates as well...

9.3x62 with 325 Oryx or 320 Woodleigh PP

Hi, I am using the 9,3x62 since 2018 as my main big game rifle. The biggest "game" I shot with it is a wild cattle, big bull. After trying some normal cup and core 285 grs bullets, I think the monometalics 250 grs work the same or much better! I have Hornady GMX, Barnes TSX and my favorite...
